Sophomore Emmanuel Vacalares (Cagayan de Oro, Philippines) and freshman Oscar Hawken (Oslo, Norway) won a No. 3 doubles match, but the Southern New Hampshire University men's tennis team was toppled by 14th-ranked Flagler College, 7-0, Monday afternoon at the Flagler Tennis Center.
STANDOUT PERFORMERS
- Vacalares and Hawken took care of Felipe Carvalho and Cedric Holzmann, 6-1, to even doubles at 1-1.
NOTES
- After beginning the season 5-0, SNHU has dropped three straight.
- The Penmen are the No. 2-ranked team in the ITA East Region Rankings, while the Saints are fourth in the Southeast and 14th in the country.
- Senior Willem van Biezen (Sassenheim, Netherlands) is No. 14 in the nation in singles, as well as the top-ranked player in the East Region, and lost to Luca Bolla, who is 47th in the country, 6-2, 6-3, at No. 1. Classmate Bas van Biezen (Sassenheim, Netherlands) is 49th in the country and No. 2 in the region, but fell to Jiri Jenicek, 6-2, 6-4, at No. 3. As a doubles tandem, the duo is sixth, regionally, and was beaten, 6-2, by Bolla and Jenicek, at No. 1.
- Vacalares is No. 19 in singles in the region. He fell to Rodrigo Carvalho, 6-2, 6-2, at No. 2.
