CoSIDA RELEASE
MANCHESTER, N.H. – Senior Maddy Barone (Halifax, Mass.) of the SNHU softball team has been named to the 2020 CoSIDA Academic All-America® Division II softball team, as selected by the College Sports Information Directors of America (CoSIDA). The announcement was made on Wednesday morning.
Despite the cancellation of spring competition during COVID-19, CoSIDA continued its sponsorship of the Academic All-America awards program. Student-athletes were selected based on career statistics.
Barone, who maintained a 3.95 GPA while majoring in mathematics, earned a spot on the Second Team as one of its two pitchers. CoSIDA recognized 33 softball players, twenty-seven had at least a 3.80 GPA. Six student-athletes maintained a perfect 4.00 GPA.
In the circle, Barone was a record-setting performer for the Penmen. The right-handed hurler finished her career with a 1.78 earned run average, the third lowest in program history. Barone is second in career strikeouts (431) and innings pitched (530.0) for her career. She followed up an eighteen-win sophomore season by going 20-7 with a Northeast-10 leading 1.25 ERA in 2019, leading her team back to the NCAA Division II Softball Tournament. Barone was 4-2 with a 1.89 ERA in her six appearances in 2020 before the season ended.
The Division II Academic All-America® program is being financially supported by the NCAA Division II national governance structure to assist CoSIDA with handling the awards fulfillment aspects for the 2019-20 Division II Academic All-America® teams program.
