USTFCCCA RELEASE
NEW ORLEANS – Graduate student Ashley Elder (Bristol, Conn.) and sophomore Ashley Corcoran (East Longmeadow, Mass.) of the Southern New Hampshire University women's track & field team were selected as United States Track & Field and Cross Country Coaches Association (USTFCCCA) Division II All-Academic performers, it was announced Thursday.
Elder, who earns the honor for a third straight season, had a 3.83 GPA in forensic psychology. She recently was named an All-American after qualifying for the NCAA Division II Indoor Track & Field Championships in the shot put. Her season-best toss of 15.07m (49' 5.5"), set on December 14 at Southern Maine, was the seventh-best toss in the nation among Division II athletes. Elder is the Penmen program record holder in the shot put (indoor and outdoor), discus, and hammer.
Corcoran, a business administration major, competed in seven events during the indoor season. She was a member of the 4x800 team that finished first at the NE10 Championships (9:30.91), in addition to placing in the mile (5:01.43). Corcoran set a program record in the 3,000m (9:45.05) at the BU Last Chance Qualifier on Feb. 28 and also set a program record in the 5,000m (17:17.01) at the Emmanuel College Opener on Dec. 7. Corcoran was tabbed USTFCCCA All-Region in the Distance Medley Relay, mile, 3000 meters, and 5000 meters, and was also the NE10 Track Athlete of the Week on two occasions (Dec. 10, Feb. 4).
