Corcoran, Couto Lead SNHU to Third-Place Finish at NE10 Championships

Five Penmen earn All-Conference Status Sunday

When and Where: October 24, 2021 – Manchester, N.H. (South Athletic Fields)  - NE10 Cross Country Championships

Results: Southern New Hampshire University – 3rd of 14 (64)

SNHU finished in third-place at Sunday's Northeast-10 Cross Country Championships at Saint Anselm College.  Graduate students Ashley Corcoran (East Longmeadow, Mass.) and Jill Couto (Newton Junction, N.H.) led the way with both earning first-team All Conference with third and fifth place finishes.

STANDOUT PERFORMERS
  • Corcoran came in third, behind a pair of runners from American International University, in 22:21.1.
  • Couto came in fifth with a time of 22:51.7 for the 6k.  
  • The other scorers for SNHU on Sunday were junior Sarah Zarakotas (Deerfield, N.H.), sophomore Kelsey Seamans (Methuen, Mass.), and graduate student Maura Coakley (Yorktown Heights, N.Y.).  
NOTES
  • By finishing in the top seven, Corcoran and Couto received first-team All-Conference recognition.
  • Zarakotas ran a 23:42.1 race, good for 15th place.  She is joined on the third-team All-Conference by Seamans (24:02.1, 20th place) and Coakley (24:05.2, 21st place).
  • Junior Lydia Mathson (Nashua, N.H.) came in 27th with a time of 24:22.6.  
  • Also competing for the Penmen were sophomores Sabrina Hanock (Sandy Hook, Conn.), Hannah Bradbury (Seekonk, Mass.), and Riley McDermott (Kennebunkport, Maine).
  • The Penmen ran in the top three for the second consecutive NE10 Championship meet.  The program's best-ever finish was a second in 2019.
  • American International University won its first NE10 Championship, ending Stonehill College's 11-year run as NE10 Champs.  The two schools combined for 10 of the top 18 finishers in the race.
  • Individually, AIC freshman Fransiscah Cherotich won the race in 21:21, setting a new NE10 record since the women's race moved to a 6K distance in 2015. Teammate and classmate Mercyline Kimaiyo placed second with her time of 21:45.
  • The Penmen finished third overall, and ahead of host Saint Anselm College (6th place) to earn two Queen City Cup points.

  • The Penmen will race at the NCAA East Regional Championships on Saturday Nov. 6 in Rochester, N.Y.
