Women's Cross Country Just Misses Automatic Bid To NCAA Championships

When and Where: November 6, 2021 – Rochester, N.Y. (Roberts Wesleyan College)  - NCAA Division II East Regional Championships
Distance:  Women's race, 6K
Results: Southern New Hampshire University – 4th of 18 (91)

SNHU finished in fourth place at Saturday's NCAA Division II East Regional Championships, falling one point short of third-place Roberts Wesleyan.  Graduate student Ashley Corcoran (East Longmeadow, Mass.) finished fourth overall, and earned a bid to the NCAA Championships as an individual qualifier.  The Penmen could still receive an at-large bid when the field is announced on Monday night.
 

STANDOUT PERFORMERS
  • Corcoran came in fourth place with a time of 21:43.7, good enough to earn the automatic bid to the NCAA.
  • Graduate student Jill Couto (Newton Junction, N.H.) wound up in eighth place at 21:56.1, a PR.  Couto could receive an invite to the NCAA Championships with an at-large bid.
  • The other scorers for SNHU on Saturday were sophomore Kelsey Seamans (Methuen, Mass.), junior Sarah Zarakotas (Deerfield, N.H.) and graduate student Maura Coakley (Yorktown Heights, N.Y.).  
NOTES
  • Seamans (21st) came across in 22:36, Zarakotas (27th) 22:48, and Coakley (35th) 23:08.9.
  • Roberts Wesleyan, the host school, compiled 90 points to earn third place by one over the Penmen.
  • American International College and Stonehill College, which ran 1-2 at the NE10 Championships at Saint Anselm, finished first and second in the region.
  • AIC runners Fransiscah Cherotich and Mercyline Kimaiyo again were top finishers in the NCAA East Regionals, as they were at the NE10 Championships.

  • The NCAA Division II National Championships will be held in Tampa, Fla. on November 20.  This year's race is hosted by Saint Leo University.
