(Manchester, N.H.) -- Freshman Shannon Gifford (Goffstown, N.H.) drove in a pair of runs, hitting her first career home run, but SNHU dropped a doubleheader at #16 Saint Anselm Sunday.
KEY MOMENTS - GAME 1
- Gifford homered off Saint Anselm starter Morgan Perry in the top of the fourth inning to tie the game at 1-1.
- The Hawks would retake the lead in the bottom of the fourth when Gracie O'Hara walked and was bunted to second. She scored on a single by Abbie Murrell.
- Perry improved to 7-0 with a complete-game five-hitter. SNHU senior Olivia Strasser (0-4) allowed two runs, one earned, in taking the loss.
KEY MOMENTS - GAME 2
- SNHU would score its only run in the top of the first inning. Freshman Alyssa Dimauro (Chester, N.H.) reached on a fielder's choice and moved to second on a wild pitch. Gifford grounded out, but Dimauro scored to put the Penmen up 1-0.
- The Hawks responded with five runs in the bottom of the first inning, which included a two-run double by O'Hara.
- Kat Stackrow hit a game-ending grand slam in the bottom of the fifth for Saint Anselm, which improved to 12-2 overall and 10-2 in NE10 play.
- McKenna Smith improved to 3-0, tossing the four-hit shutout.  Sophomore Alexcea Glynos (Danvers, Mass.) took the loss in her first start of the season.
- Freshman Leine McKechnie (Passadumkeag, Maine) worked 3.1 innings of two-hit relief in her career debut in the circle for the Penmen.
- Senior Jackie Gavin (East Bridgewater, Mass.) had two singles and a pair of stolen bases in the second game.
NOTES
- The Hawks took three of four from the Penmen, allowing a total of six runs in the four games.Â
- Gifford is now tied with senior Chloe Griffin (Scarborough, Maine) with four RBI. Griffin continues to lead the team with a .407 batting average.
