(Hooksett, N.H.) - SNHU rallied with two runs in the bottom of the seventh inning for a 6-5 win, then blanked Saint Michael's 8-0 for a doubleheader sweep Saturday.
KEY MOMENTS - GAME 1
- The Penmen erased a 2-0 lead with four runs in the bottom of the fourth inning. Senior Shay Sauvageau (Griswold, Conn.) and senior Jackie Gavin (East Bridgewater, Mass.) each delivered two-run singles.
- The Purple Knights connected for back-to-back homers to take the lead in the top of the seventh inning. Hannah Arruda connected on a two-run shot and Haley Waghorn followed a homer off the top of the center-field wall to give Saint Michael's a 5-4 lead.
- Gavin singled to start the bottom of the seventh inning and sophomore Bryn Garczynski (Norwood, Mass.) followed with a bunt single. Senior Coralie Mathieu (Methuen, Mass.) then laid down a successful sacrifice. A sacrifice fly by senior Chloe Griffin (Scarborough, Maine) tied the score. Freshman Alyssa Dimauro (Chester, N.H.) then ripped a flare to right that fell in for the game-winning single.
- Griffin came on to record the final outs in relief of senior Olivia Strasser (Rutland, Mass.) to earn the win.Â
KEY MOMENTS - GAME 2
- Griffin went the distance in the second game, allowing only a pair of hits.Â
- The Penmen recorded at least two hits in five of six at-bats, finishing with a season-high 14 hits.
- Sauvageau singled in a run in the first for a 1-0 lead.
- A two-out rally in the second inning led to a pair of runs. Garczynski singled, Griffin doubled, and Dimauro knocked them both in with a double to left field.
- Mathieu had three singles in the game, knocking in runs in both the fifth and sixth innings.Â
- Junior Emily Carbonneau (Lowell, Mass.) had a pair of hits and drew a walk in four plate appearances.
NOTES
- Griffin has been winning pitcher in all four Penmen wins this season.
- Griffin also leads the team with 12 hits and three extra base hits.
- Dimauro and fellow freshman Shannon Gifford (Goffstown, N.H.) are both hitting over .300.Â
