(Hooksett, N.H.) - Senior Olivia Strasser (Rutland, Mass.) went the distance and junior Emily Carbonneau (Lowell, Mass.) homered to give SNHU a 6-3 win over Stonehill in the first game of a doubleheader Thursday. The Skyhawks won the nightcap 11-2 to earn a split at the SNHU Softball Field.
KEY MOMENTS - GAME 1
- The Penmen struck for a pair of first inning runs with three consecutive hits to start the game. Freshman Alyssa Dimauro (Chester, N.H.) doubled and scored on a single by senior Chloe Griffin (Scarborough, Maine) to make it 1-0. Freshman Shannon Gifford (Goffstown, N.H.) doubled Griffin in for another run.
- SNHU added two more runs in the second inning. Singles by freshman Bella Dickinson (Scarborough, Maine) and sophomore Bryn Garczynski (Norwood, Mass.) and a walk to Dimauro loaded the bases. One run scored on a wild pitch and a sacrifice fly by Griffin made it 4-0.
- Carbonneau homered to lead off the sixth inning, and the Penmen added another run by putting together a double by Dickinson and a single by Griffin.
- Strasser (2-5) allowed three runs in the top of the seventh inning, all unearned after a pair of errors by the Penmen and a passed ball. She walked one batter and struck out five.
KEY MOMENTS - GAME 2
- Stonehill opened an 8-0 lead with three runs in the first, four in the second, and another in the third. Marissa Dwyer homered in the second inning chasing Griffin, who started in the circle.
- SNHU had chances, coming up with eight hits in the first four innings, but only produced two runs. A sacrifice fly by senior Emily Critch (Halifax, Mass.) plated a run in the third inning.
- In the fourth, senior Jackie Gavin (East Bridgewater, Mass.) and Dickinson singled. A run scored on a fielders choice by Dimauro. Â
- Reliever Julia Perrone worked 2.2 innings of scoreless relief to earn the win. Â
- Skyhawk outfielder Genna Hartman went four-for-four with three RBI, part of a 15-hit attack.
NOTES
- SNHU and Stonehill split the four games the teams played this season.
- The second game loss was the first for Chloe Griffin (6-2) since dropping her first start of the season, March 25.
- Carbonneau's homer was her first of the season. She hit 10 her first season with the Penmen in 2019, leading the Northeast-10 Conference. Â
- Carbonneau was shaken up, and left the second game of the doubleheader after a collision with a Stonehill runner while trying to field a grounder at first base. Â
