(Hooksett, N.H.) - The SNHU softball team hit four home runs, two by senior Shay Sauvageau (Griswold, Conn.), to sweep a doubleheader from Bentley 8-0 and 7-1 on Sunday. Senior Olivia Strasser (Rutland, Mass.) earned the win in both games, tossing nine scoreless innings.
KEY MOMENTS - GAME 1
- Strasser pitched a complete game, one-hitter. The only hit by the Falcons was a single by Lindsey Allen in the third inning. Â
- The Penmen would score all the runs they would need in the top of the first inning. Senior Chloe Griffin (Scarborough, Maine) doubled and freshman Shannon Gifford (Goffstown, N.H.) followed with a long home run down the left field line.
- Sauvageau hit her first home run of the season to right field in the fourth inning. The solo shot gave the Penmen a 3-0 lead.
- SNHU had three hits, singles by freshman Bella Dickinson (Scarborough, Maine), senior Emily Critch (Halifax, Mass.) and Sauvageau to score five runs in the fifth inning.
KEY MOMENTS - GAME 2
- SNHU took a 1-0 lead in the top of the first inning. Freshman Alyssa Dimauro (Chester, N.H.) singled to start the game, advancing to third on a double by Griffin. Critch knocked in the run with a base hit.
- Senior Coralie Mathieu (Methuen, Mass.) had the first of her two hits, leading off the second with a single. Dickinson then belted her first home run to give SNHU a 3-0 lead.
- The Falcons cut into the lead when Kaylee Mankins hit her fourth home run, leading off the bottom of the second.
- Sophomore Bryn Garczynski (Norwood, Mass.) and Griffin put together doubles for another Penmen run in the fourth inning
- Sauvageau hit her second home run of the doubleheader, a line drive over the right-field fence that gave SNHU a 5-1 lead at the time.
- The Penmen added runs on a Garczynski bunt single and a single by Critch.
- Griffin worked the first three innings before giving way to Strasser, who held Bentley hitless the remaining of the game.
NOTES
- Strasser (4-6) earned the wins in both games, working a total of nine scoreless innings, allowing only one hit.
- The Penmen hit four home runs on the day - they had hit only six in the first 18 games of the season.
- Gavin is 21-for-52 on the season, and her .404 batting average is tied for fourth best in the NE10.
- SNHU wins the season series from Bentley 3-games-to-1 after the teams split a doubleheader on Saturday in Waltham.
- Sunday's doubleheader was moved to the SNHU softball field because of rain concerns at Bentley. The Falcons played as the "home team."Â
