(Rindge, N.H.)- SNHU erased a 4-0 deficit in the nightcap, but fell to Franklin Pierce 9-6. The Ravens won the opener 2-0 to sweep Saturday's doubleheader in Rindge.
KEY MOMENTS - GAME 1
- The first two Penmen reached on singles in the top of the first inning. Freshman Alyssa Dimauro (Chester, N.H.) and senior Chloe Griffin (Scarborough, Maine) started the game with base hits. Freshman Shannon Gifford (Goffstown, N.H.) lined into a double play, and the Penmen bats were mostly silent the rest of the contest.
- Franklin Pierce scored its two runs off losing pitcher senior Olivia Strasser (4-7) in the bottom of the second inning. A hit batsman, a double, and a single produced the two runs. Â
- SNHU did come up with a pair of two-out hits in the sixth inning without scoring, and senior Jackie Gavin (East Bridgewater, Mass.) singled in the seventh.
- Raven freshman Samantha Sylvester improved to 5-0 with her first seven-inning complete game.
KEY MOMENTS - GAME 2
- Franklin Pierce opened a 4-0 lead before the SNHU bats came alive to score four runs in the top of the sixth inning.
- Dimauro opened the frame with a double, scoring on a single by Gifford. Seniors Shay Sauvageau (Griswold, Conn.) and Coralie Mathieu (Methuen, Mass.) hit back-to-back home runs to tie the game.
- The Ravens responded with five runs in the bottom of the sixth inning to take a 9-4 lead, three runs scored on a triple by freshman Ashley Cangiano.
- Gifford had an RBI single in the top of the seventh inning, and senior Emily Critch (Halifax, Mass.) doubled in a run in the seventh.
NOTES
- Franklin Pierce is on a nine-game winning streak heading into tomorrow's doubleheader, which will end the regular season.
- SNHU leads the all-time series with the Ravens 58-25. Â
- Sauvageau has now hit three home runs to tie for the team lead with Critch and Gifford.
- It was the second career home run for Mathieu, who hit her first against Lock Haven on February 15, 2019.
