USTFCCCA RELEASE
NEW ORLEANS – Seven members of the Southern New Hampshire University women's track and field team, including six freshmen, garnered NCAA Division II All-East Region recognition, as the United States Track & Field and Cross Country Coaches Association (USTFCCCA) announced the All-Region honorees for the 2021 NCAA Division II Outdoor Track & Field season.
The All-Region teams are comprised of the top-five individuals in each event from each region.
Three honorees competed in the Steeplechase this season, sophomore Ashley Corcoran (East Longmeadow, Mass.), freshman Riley McDermott (Kennebunkport, Maine), and freshman Marisa Shiland (Sherman, Conn.). Corcoran recorded the best regional time in the event (11:07.86) at the SNHU Last Chance Conference Qualifier on May 1. Shiland (11:52.06) and McDermott (11:59.40) both ran strong at the Northeast-10 Outdoor Track & Field Championships.
Freshman Kelsey Seamans (Methuen, Mass.) ran the top time in the region in the 5000m. She won the Northeast-10 Outdoor Track & Field Championships event at 18:04.88.
Freshman Sarah Zarakotas (Deerfield, N.H.) had a strong second-place run in the 10000m at the NE10 Championships with a run of 39:32.30.
Freshman Theresa Irving (Penacook, N.H.) tied for the best high jump mark in the region in 2021 with a mark of 1.62m at Brandeis on April 10.
Freshman Tori Limone (Stoneham, Mass.) had the top throw in the javelin this season (38.77m/127' 2") at SNHU's home meet on May 1.
The Penmen finished the 2021 Outdoor season with a fourth-place finish at the Northeast-10 Championship in Springfield, Mass. That was the top effort in the short history of the program.
