MANSFIELD, Mass. – Freshman AJ Cavotta (Saratoga Springs, N.Y.) of the Southern New Hampshire University men's golf team was chosen as the Northeast-10 Rookie of the Year, while junior Matt Conti (Walpole, Mass.) earned NE10 All-Conference First Team honors, as the league office announced its All-Conference accolades Wednesday afternoon.
Cavotta, who also collected a Second Team nod, is the fifth Penmen to collect NE10 Rookie of the Year honors and goes back-to-back with teammate Jared Mscisz (Danvers, Mass.), who received the accolade a year ago. Cavotta turned in a 74.8 per-round average, playing 13 rounds across seven events. He submitted four top-five finishes and twice submitted a season-low round of 69.
Conti led the team with a 73.8 average in the 13 rounds over seven events. He placed in the top five in five of those, including two runner-up performances and a pair of wins against Bentley University (March 23) and Saint Michael's College (March 31). Conti's season-low round of 67 came against Bentley to open the season and then two more times versus Saint Michael's. Conti was a Second Teamer last season.
