Freshman Gavin Richardson (Concord, N.H.) fired a 4-under 66 in Tuesday's final round to capture individual medalist honors at the Penmen Spring Invitational. The Southern New Hampshire University men's golf team also rallied to finish in a tie for first place at Derryfield Country Club.
INDIVIDUAL PERFORMERS
- Richardson, who was tied for sixth entering the final round after shooting a 71 Monday, made up his two-shot deficit with a 66 that wound up being the best score of the tournament by two strokes. He finished at 3-under 137 for the two rounds to win by a single shot.
- Sophomore Andrew Surprenant (Boscawen, N.H.) improved upon his opening round by six shots with a 1-over that tied him for 19th with a 148.
- Junior Mitchell Cormier (Walpole, N.H.) bettered his Monday score by one stroke, carding a 73 that slotted him into a 15th-place tie at 147.
- Sophomore Charlie Blake (Saratoga Springs, N.Y.) matched his opening-round 74 to tie Surprenant at 148.
NOTES
- Senior Sean Dully (Palm Beach Gardens, Fla.) had his 77 dropped from the team score and finished at 150 for the two rounds.
- Sophomore Stephen Ramos (Danville, N.H.), playing as an individual, improved by one shot from the opening round, turning in a 73 that tied him with Cormier at 147.
- Sophomore Sam Maurice (Auburn, N.H.), also playing as an individual, penciled in a 74, pairing it with Monday's 75 to finish at 149.
- Junior Drew Cameron (Londonderry, N.H.), another SNHU individual, matched Monday's 82.
- SNHU scored a 284 in the second round to finish at 576 for the tournament, pulling into a first-place tie with Assumption University (576), which saw its three-shot lead over Post University (579) and four-shot lead over SNHU at the beginning of the day evaporate.
- Richardson wound up defeating Post University's Joe Ensign (70/68) by a single stroke.
- The Penmen Spring Invitational was comprised of 47 golfers from eight different institutions.
