MANSFIELD, Mass. – The Southern New Hampshire University women's tennis team was voted fifth in the NE10 Preseason Coaches' Poll on Monday.
Franklin Pierce University secured the top spot with nine first-place votes and 99 total points, while Adelphi University was second with 88 points and one first-place vote. Things narrowed from there, with Stonehill College nabbing the remaining first-place vote and 78 points to finish third. Le Moyne College (72) edged SNHU (71) for fourth place.
The University of New Haven (56) slotted in sixth ahead of Assumption University (43) and Bentley University (37). American International College (23), Saint Anselm College (22) and Saint Michael's College (16) rounded out the poll.
Head coach
Greg Coache enters his 15th season, coming off an abbreviated slate last spring in which the Penmen went 7-4 and lost in the NE10 Championship quarterfinals.
Southern New Hampshire will return all six members of its roster from a year ago, including 2021 NE10 Player of the Year
Magdalena Hubickova (Prague, Czech Republic. The junior went 8-1 at No. 1 singles, as well as 7-2 at No. 1 doubles. Hubickova's doubles partner, Senior
Alexxa Etienne (Bayamon, Puerto Rico), also shined in singles play last season, going 8-1 at No. 2. Junior
Isabella Andrade (Cochabamba, Colombia) was also 8-1 in singles play, splitting her time between Nos. 3 and 4. She was 5-1 in doubles.
SNHU will open the season Sunday, Sept. 12 (1 p.m.) when it plays host to in-state rival Franklin Pierce at the Penmen Stadium Tennis Courts. The Penmen hit the road two days later to battle New Haven on Sept. 14, before heading to the ITA East Regional Championships (Sept. 17-20) at the USTA Billie Jean King National Tennis Center in Flushing, N.Y.
