In its first game in nearly a month, the Southern New Hampshire women's basketball team improved to 10-2 with an 86-76 win at Stonehill College in a make-up Northeast-10 conference game on Monday afternoon in Easton, Mass.

  • Graduate student Meg Knollmeyer (Hampton, N.H.) - 22 points (10-15 FG, 2-3 FT), 8 rebounds
  • Graduate student Gyanna Russell (E. Hampton, Conn.) – 20 points (4-8 FG, 12-12 FT), 5 rebounds
  • Graduate student Karlee Ziliak (Evansville, Ind.) – 13 points (4-9 FG, 2-7 3-FG)
  • Junior Adriana Timberlake (Braintree, Mass.) -13 points (4-7 FG, 2-4 3-FG, 3-4 FT)
KEY MOMENTS
  • The teams played an even first half, with Stonehill heading to the locker room with a 35-33 lead.  The Penmen did not lead by more than two points in the first two quarters.
  • SNHU had a terrific shooting second half, scoring 53 points on 18 of 34 shooting to secure the fourth league win in five games.
  • The Penmen took a three-point lead at 55-52 on a three-pointer by junior Ariana Koivisto (Pomfret, Conn.) with six seconds to go in the third period and would not trail for the remainder of the contest.  
  • Southern New Hampshire was able to put 31 points on the board in the fourth quarter by making 12-of-13 free throws.  Knollmeyer scored 12 of her team-high 22 in the final stanza.
INSIDE THE BOX SCORE
  • Kayla Raymond led the Skyhawks with a game-high 26 points.
  • SNHU outshot Stonehill 47.5 percent (29-61) to 44.1 percent (26-59), including 41.2 percent (7-17) to 30.0 percent (6-20) from beyond the arc.
  • Both teams shot extremely well from the charity stripe.  The Penmen were 21-24 (87.5 %) and Stonehill was 18-for-20 (90.0%).
NOTES
  • The latest Division II rankings, released Monday, have the Penmen as the top-rated team in the East Region.
  • The Penmen picked up a win at Stonehill for the first time in six years.  The Skyhawks had won 14 of the last 16 games with SNHU.
  • Russell is the only Penmen to have scored in double figures in all 11 games this season.
WHAT'S NEXT
  • The Penmen return to action on Wednesday, January 19 (5:30 p.m.) when the travel to American International College as part of a doubleheader with the SNHU men.
  • The next home contest for SNHU is Saturday, January 22 (1:30 p.m.) when Saint Rose pays a visit to the Stan Spirou Field House.  Fans attending are asked to wear masks, regardless of vaccination status, and the concession stand will be closed.
