(New Haven, Conn.) - Graduate student Ashley Corcoran (East Longmeadow, Mass.) and sophomore Hannah Bradbury (Seekonk, Mass.) won the mile and 800m races respectively as SNHU competed for the first time in the new year. The Penmen were especially strong in the middle distance races in earning a team win at the William Sutherland III Invitational at Southern Connecticut State University Saturday.
TOP PERFORMERS
- Corcoran's mile run was 5:07.53. Finishing second in the event was junior Sarah Zarakotas (Deerfield, N.H.)
- The Penmen ran 1-2-3 in the 800m, lead by Bradbury in 2:30.72. Sophomore Kaitlyn O'Rourke (Braintree, Mass.) was second in 2:33.78, with graduate student Olivia Coco (Bedford, N.H.) running third with 2:40.76.
- Senior sprinter Meghan Stroh (New Fairfield, Conn.) finished second in the 200m (26.77) and fourth in the 55m (7.57).
- Sophomore Laila Bunnitt (Lewiston, Maine) finished second in the shot put (11.48m) and fifth in the weight throw (13.00m).
- Senior Bennie Alula (Hartford, Conn.) was second in the weight throw (14.59m) and fifth in the shot put (10.64m).
NOTES
- 14 athletes scored team points in nine different events.
- The Penmen tallied 104 teams points to finish clear of second place Franklin Pierce University (96) and the University of New Haven (63).
- SNHU added the meet in New Haven to replace a canceled event at Plymouth State. This was the first competition for the Penmen since December 11.

- The Penmen head back to the University of Southern Maine for an indoor meet on Saturday, January 29.
