Bunnitt's Program Record Hammer Throw Highlights Day 1 at NE10 Championships

What:  Northeast-10 Outdoor Track & Field Championships (Day 1 of 2)
Score:  4th of 8 (41.5 points)  

Graduate student Laila Bunnitt (Lewiston, Maine) set a new program record in the hammer throw, finishing second, and Southern New Hampshire Track & Field is in fourth place after the first day of the Northeast-10 Outdoor Track & Field Championships at Ouellette Stadium.
FRIDAY HIGHLIGHTS
  • Bunnitt set a new program record while finishing second in the hammer throw.  Her effort was 50.46m.
  • Sophomore Kayla Franks (Derry, N.H.) earned six team points by finishing third in the javelin at 40.33m.  Senior Morgan Cooledge (Westbrook, Maine) finished in eighth in the event to earn a team point.
  • Junior Corrina Obernesser (Westminster, Colo.) ran a new PR, finishing fourth in the 1500m in 4:47.73.
  • Junior Hope Sinclair (Hampton, N.H.) won her heat and qualified for the final of the 100m in 12.37 seconds.
  • Sinclair also has qualified in the 200m after running a new PR of 25.12.  
  • Freshman Hannah Sippel (Chester, N.H.) has qualified for the finals in both the 200m and 400m.  Her 200m time of 25.48 was a new personal best.
  • Senior Tori Allen (Litchfield, N.H.) won two of four events and has the lead in the Heptathlon going into Saturday's final legs.
  • Allen led a 4-5-6 finish in the high jump with teammates sophomore Jordan Wheaton (Hooksett, N.H.) and sophomore Angela Mateos (Seville, Spain).  All recorded a jump of 1.52m.
  • Wheaton has also qualified for the 100H final after a 15.04 run in her qualifying heat.
  • Freshman Erika Wojcik (North Andover, Mass.) and freshman Paige McInerney (Acton, Mass.) both ran new PR's and have qualified for the 800m final.  Wojcik won her heat in 2:16.13 and McInerney was second her trial at 2:17.67.
  • Sophomore Kora Hay (Conventry, R.I.) finished fifth, earning four team points, in the 10,000m with a time of 41:58.73.
  • Wojcik, Obernesser, McInerney, and junior Anne Wiersma (Veldhoven, Netherlands) captured third-place in the 4x800 relay race which closed the Friday action.
NOTES
  • Allen is bidding for a second heptathlon win in the NE10 Championships- she won the event as a freshman with her current PR of 4246 points.
  • Bunnitt's hammer throw eclipsed the previous program mark of 49.32m set by Ashley Elder in 2019.
  • This is the third time Southern New Hampshire has hosted the Outdoor Track & Field Championships.  SNHU won the meet when it was last contested here May 5-6, 2023.
  • With eight of 22 events scored on Friday, Southern Connecticut State (82) leads the University of New Haven (51), Saint Anselm College (44.50) and SNHU (41.50).
  • Southern Connecticut State (85.50) has a big lead on second-place Assumption University (47) on the men's side.
WHAT'S NEXT
  • The Northeast-10 Outdoor Track & Field Championship will conclude on Saturday with a revised start time of 9:00 a.m.
