Women's Cross Country Places 32nd at NCAA National Championships

Corcoran paces Penmen in 88th

Results: Women's 6k – 32nd of 34 (906 points)

Graduate student Ashley Corcoran (East Longmeadow, Mass.) slotted in 88th, overall, as the Southern New Hampshire University women's cross country team placed 32nd at the NCAA National Championship on Friday at Chambers Creek Regional Park.

STANDOUT PERFORMERS
  • Corcoran crossed the finish line at 21:57.0 on a slow and muddy course, just about a second-and-a-half behind her time last month at the NCAA East Regional Championship. She was 88th in the 263-runner field.
  • Junior Kelsey Seamans (Methuen, Mass.) finished in 221st with a time of 23:46.7.
  • Junior Kaitlyn O'Rourke (Braintree, Mass.) wrapped up her race in 24:01.7.
  • Freshman Corrina Obernesser (Westminster, Colo.) ran a 24:14.2.
  • Graduate student Rose Pitman (Sherill, N.Y.) rounded out the scoring runners for the Penmen with a time of 24:24.1.
NOTES
  • Senior Sarah Zarakotas (Deerfield, N.H.) recorded a time of 24:52.3.
  • Junior Hannah Bradbury (Seekonk, Mass.) finished in 25:27.3.
  • SNHU, which captured both its first NCAA East Region and NE10 Championship titles this season, beat out the two teams from the East Region.
  • Corcoran was the top finisher of the 23 runners representing the East Region. She was the individual NCAA East Region Champion last month.
  • Corcoran's time is tied for the eighth fastest 6k in program history. She now has eight of the top 10 school marks at the 6k distance. 
  • This was SNHU's second NCAA Division II National Championship appearance, as it qualified in 2019 when it also finished 32nd of 34 teams.
  • Adams State's Stephanie Cotter blew away the rest of the field to win the national title with a time of 19:45.2 – 42 seconds ahead of the runner-up.
  • Adams State captured the national crown as a team, as well, collecting 75 points, with its top three runneers placing inside the top 15.
