(Boston, Mass.) - Graduate student Ashley Corcoran (East Longmeadow, Mass.) won the women's 5k and helped lead the SNHU distance medley relay team to a first-place finish as the Northeast-10 Indoor Track & Field Championships got underway Thursday in Boston.
HIGHLIGHTS
- Corcoran won the 5k in 17:30.41, less than two seconds off the meet record. Sophomore Kelsey Seamans (Methuen, Mass.) finished third in the race, and junior Sarah Zarakotas (Deerfield, N.H.) would up in sixth place. Seamans ran a new PR of 17:54.83. Â
- The Penmen turned in a 12:35.26 to take the DMR. The relay participants were sophomore Kaitlyn O'Rourke (Braintree, Mass.), sophomore Ava Gravell (Windham, N.H.), sophomore Hannah Bradbury (Seekonk, Mass.), and Corcoran.
- The Penmen earned points in the Indoor Pentathlon with sophomore Emma Hallet (Billerica, Mass.) finishing up in third place with 2811 points and freshman Tori Allen (Litchfield, N.H.) coming in eighth place.
- In the field events, the Penmen picked up a third place finish by senior Bennie Alula (Hartford, Conn.) in the weight throw - sophomore Laila Bunnitt (Lewiston, Maine) wound up in sixth place.
- Gravell finished eighth in the pole vault.
NOTES
- The Penmen will take the lead into Friday's second day of competition. Senior Meghan Stroh (New Fairfield, Conn.) has qualified for the finals in the 60m, 200m, and 400m races.
- Bradbury has qualified for the 800m finals. Â
- Events are scheduled to start at 11am Friday.
