Corcoran Wins Steeplechase In Second Fastest Time In Nation

Penmen Sent Four Runners to UConn Meet Friday

Results  - 3rd of 16 (Penmen competed on first day of competition)
(Storrs, Conn.) - Southern New Hampshire University graduate student Ashley Corcoran (East Longmeadow, Mass.) won the 3000m Steeplechase at UConn's Northeast Challenge Friday.  Corcoran's time, 10:23.96, is the second fastest by a Div. II athlete in the nation so far this season.  

HIGHLIGHTS
  • Corcoran eclipsed her previous best, set at SNHU's Spring Invitational two weeks ago, by almost 15 seconds.
  • Graduate student Maura Coakley (Yorktown Heights, N.Y.) also ran the 3000s steeplechase in a new PR of 11:30.20, finishing sixth.
  • Sophomore Kelsey Seamans (Methuen, Mass.) ran a 10000m race for the first time, and came in 5th at 38:24.74. setting a new SNHU program mark.
  • Junior Sarah Zarakotas (Deerfield, N.H.), who previously held the 10000 mark, set a new PR with 39:25.10.  Seamans finished fifth and Zarakotas seventh in the race.
UP NEXT
  • SNHU will host the Penmen Relays on Saturday, and recognize its senior athletes in a short ceremony around 10 a.m.
