INDIANAPOLIS – The eighth-ranked Southern New Hampshire University baseball team earned a selection to the NCAA Championship for the 10th consecutive season as the No. 1 seed for the East Regional, the NCAA Selection Committee announced Sunday night when it released its field of 56 teams. The Penmen will play in the NCAA East Regional pod No. 1, which will be hosted by Wilmington (Del.) University's Wilson Field on May 19-21.
SNHU, which received the NE10 Conference's automatic qualifier after capturing its fourth NE10 crown – and second straight – Saturday, will make its way to Wilmington for an East Regional for the first time. The Penmen (41-9) earn a bye through the first game and will play in the day's second game Thursday, May 19 (2:30 p.m.) against the loser of the 11 a.m. game between fourth-seeded Wilmington (31-11) and fifth-seeded Southern Connecticut State University (30-13-1). A Penmen win would punch their ticket directly into Friday's (May 20) final.
The team to emerge from the pod will take on the winner of East Region pod No. 2 in the NCAA East Super Regional on May 27-28. The regional champion will advance to the Division II College World Series at the USA Baseball National Training Complex in Cary, N.C., from June 4-11.
The Penmen are 31-21 (.596) lifetime in the NCAA Tournament and have collected a pair of regional crowns, which led to World Series appearances in 2012, 2018 and 2021. The Penmen have also appeared in five straight regional finals.
Southern New Hampshire, which will also make its 10th appearance, overall, in the NCAA Championship, is 2-2 all-time in the tournament against Wilmington, while it has never met SCSU in the NCAA postseason. The Penmen and Wildcats have not met in the NCAA Championship since 2015.
