TEMPE, Ariz. – Southern New Hampshire University men's tennis head coach Greg Coache headlined a trio of Penmen that received regional honors from the Intercollegiate Tennis Association (ITA) recently. Coache was named the Wilson ITA East Region Coach of the Year, Nate Taschereau was honored as the Assistant Coach of the Year and freshman Jonathan Berling (Moss, Norway) took home Rookie of the Year honors.
Coache, in his 13th season, captures his fourth ITA East Region Coach of the Year honor on the men's side (2011, 2017, 2019), in addition to his one win with the women (2010). Coache guided the Penmen to an 11-3 record, including a spot in the NE10 title match for the seventh time in eight years. SNHU also made its 10th appearance in the NCAA tournament, claiming the East Region crown to advance to the Round of 16 for the second time in program history. The Penmen, who previously made it that far in 2019, are the only NE10 member to reach the Round of 16 since 2002.
Taschereau is the second Penmen assistant to win the award and the first since Frank Campolo in 2016.
Berling is the first Penmen to win ITA East Region Rookie of the Year and collects the crowning achievement of his first season in an SNHU uniform after being voted as the Vern Cox NE10 Player of the Year and the NE10 Rookie of the Year. Berling also made the NE10 All-Conference First Team at No. 1 singles and No. 1 doubles, and received an NE10 All-Rookie Team nod. A two-time NE10 Player of the Week and five-time NE10 Rookie of the Week in 2021-22, Berling posted a singles record of 15-1, while going 15-3 in doubles play.
