Graduate student Verena Weindl (Munich, Germany) and junior Amelia Brenner (Londonderry, N.H.) did not drop a game in their singles matches, as the Southern New Hampshire University women's tennis team silenced Assumption University, 7-0, Wednesday afternoon at the Assumption Tennis Courts.
STANDOUT PERFORMERS
- Weindl was a 6-0, 6-0 winner against Isabelle Edwards at No. 4 singles, while Brenner also posted a 6-0, 6-0 victory at No. 6 singles versus Elizabeth McGeer.
- Weindl also teamed with freshman Alina Kupfer (Munich, Germany) for a 6-1 No. 2 doubles win against Caitlin Sze and Edwards.
- Kupfer defeated Sze, 6-1, 6-2, at No. 2 singles.
- Senior Magdalena Hubickova (Prague, Czech Republic) breezed by Cara McCormack, 6-0, 6-1, at No. 1 singles, in addition to combining with graduate student Alexxa Etienne (Bayamon, Puerto Rico) for a 6-1 win over McCormack and Aimee Figgins at No. 1 doubles.
- Etienne recorded a 6-1, 6-4 victory at No. 3 singles over Figgins.
- Sophomore Katelyn Nichols (Manchester, N.H. was tied with Jessica Crosby, 2-2, in the first set of their No. 5 singles match when she won following Crosby's retirement.
- Sophomore Guntra Upeniece (Riga, Latvia) and junior Isabella Andrade (Cochabamba, Bolivia) blanked Crosby and McGeer, 6-0, at No. 3 doubles.
NOTES
- Southern New Hampshire begins the season 4-0 for the second straight year.
- The Penmen lead the all-time series with Assumption, 17-5, and have now won four-in-a-row versus the Greyhounds. It is SNHU's first win at Assumption since Sept. 11, 2016 (9-0).
- Brenner's singles win was the first of her collegiate career.
