INDIANAPOLIS – The Southern New Hampshire University men's soccer team received its 23rd NCAA Championship tournament berth when the NCAA Selection Committee announced its field of 40 teams Monday evening.
Southern New Hampshire (10-5-4), which earned an at-large bid, receives Super Region 1's No. 9 seed and will take on eighth-seeded Bloomsburg University (10-3-5) in a first round match Thursday, Nov. 16 (4 p.m.) at Franklin Pierce University, which is one of four hosts of Super Region 1. The contest will take place at Sodexo Field in Rindge, N.H. The Penmen and Huskies will be meeting for the first time.
The winner of the SNHU/Bloomsburg match will meet top-seeded and top-ranked Franklin Pierce (16-0-1) on Saturday, Nov. 18 (4 p.m.). The winner from that match will head to the highest remaining seed from the Atlantic Region to battle the team that emerges from the Adelphi University side of the bracket in the third round of the NCAA Tournament on Nov. 30 or Dec. 1.
The quarterfinal round will take place at the same sites as the third round Dec. 2 or 3, while the semifinals and final will be played Dec. 7 and 9 at the Matthews Sportsplex in Matthews, N.C., hosted by Wingate University.
SNHU will be making its 23rd appearance, overall, in the NCAA Championship and carries in an all-time record of 21-16-6 (.558). The Penmen have never met Bloomsburg in the NCAA postseason and are 3-2-1 against Franklin Pierce. SNHU, which played to a 1-1 tie with the Ravens in the NE10 title match Sunday, before falling on penalty kicks, 6-5, last met FPU in the 2011 national quarterfinals in Rindge, suffering a 1-0 loss.
