LEXINGTON, Ky. – Redshirt-senior Ana Pimenta (Rio de Janeiro, Brazil) of the Southern New Hampshire University women's volleyball team was named an American Volleyball Coaches Association (AVCA) All-America Honorable Mention last week.
Pimenta becomes the program's first All-American, after also being chosen as the first All-Region performer in school history when she was selected as both an AVCA East All-Region First Teamer and Division 2 Conference Commissioners Association (D2CCA) East All-Region Second Teamer. Pimenta, who was also the program's first NE10 All-Conference First Team pick last month, started 24 of the 25 matches she played in this season. Over 90 sets, she has racked up 286 kills (3.18 k/s) on .196 hitting, 14 aces (0.16 sa/s), 191 digs (2.12 d/s) and 61 blocks (0.68 b/s). Pimenta ranked second in the NE10 in kills per set, seventh in total kills, 14th in total blocks, 17th in blocks per set and 36th in hitting percentage.
The Penmen finished 13-13, including 6-5 in league play, as they claimed the No. 5 seed and upset fourth-seeded American International College in five sets in the quarterfinals of the NE10 Championship. After dropping another five-set decision in the semifinals at top-seeded Adelphi University, SNHU received its second straight NCAA Championship berth as the No. 6 seed in the East Region and suffered yet another five-set defeat to third-seeded Bentley University in the quarterfinals.
