Timberlake Reaches 1,000, as Women's Basketball Eases by Saint Rose, 81-43

Timberlake becomes 19th in program history to score 1,000 career points

Senior Adriana Timberlake (Braintree,  Mass.) scored a game-high 21 points, including the 1,000th of her career, to lead the Southern New Hampshire University women's basketball team to Saturday's 81-43 victory against the College of Saint Rose on Pink Day at the Stan Spirou Field House.

KEY MOMENTS
  • Southern New Hampshire led, 13-12, with less than three minutes to play in the opening quarter when a Knight bucket sparked a run of eight straight points to end the stanza with the Penmen holding a 21-13 lead. SNHU then began the second quarter with nine straight – with five coming from senior Ariana Koivisto (Pomfret, Conn.) – to expand the lead to 30-12 just 2:01 in. Following a Saint Rose bucket, six different Penmen contributed to a 13-0 burst that made it 43-15 with 1:31 on the clock. SNHU would go to the break with a 43-18 advantage.
  • The margin was still 25 a little more than halfway through the third quarter when the Penmen ripped off a 14-4 run – led by six from Roy and four from Timberlake – to run the score to 66-30 with 1:30 remaining. Southern New Hampshire would lead, 68-32, at the end of three.
  • With the gap still at 36 late in the fourth, baskets from freshman Matilde Baron (Vicenza, Italy) and sophomore Megan Deans (Winterport, Maine) gave SNHU its largest lead of the afternoon at 81-41 with 58 ticks left.
INSIDE THE BOX SCORE
  • Koivisto tallied seven points (2-5 FG, 1-4 3-FG, 2-2 FT), four rebounds and three assists.
  • Senior Jenna Roche (Braintree, Mass.) recorded six points (2-6 FG, 2-2 FT), five rebounds and three assists.
  • Deans netted a career-best six points (3-3 FG).
  • Junior Julia Colby (So. Paris, Maine) notched five points (2-6 FG, 1-2 3-FG) and seven rebounds.
  • Sophomore Sydnie DeVries (Monson, Mass.) scored two points (1-4 FG) and grabbed six boards.
  • Freshman Emily Greenwood (Manchester, N.H.) chipped in four assists and a pair of rebounds.
  • SNHU used a 30-3 run that spanned 11:32 over the end of the first quarter and most of the second quarter. The Penmen defense held Saint Rose to 1-for-22 shooting from the field and forced four turnovers during the stretch.
  • Southern New Hampshire outshot Saint Rose, 46.2 percent (30-65) to 26.5 percent (18-68), including 33.3 percent (6-18) to 10 percent (2-20) from beyond the arc.
  • SNHU was also plus-10 from the line and shot it better, 88.2 percent (15-17) to 45.5 percent (5-11).
  • The Penmen captured the glass (32-27) and paint (36-34), received more scoring from their bench (24-14) and and featured a better assist-to-turnover ratio (16/9-10/8). The Golden Knights scored more points off turnovers (7-6), and second chance points (14-4)
NOTES
  • Southern New Hampshire has won four of its last five games. The Penmen are tied for second place in the NE10 standings with Assumption University, a half-game back of first-place Le Moyne College.
  • SNHU now leads the all-time series with Saint Rose, 17-16, after winning its sixth straight against the Golden Knights. The Penmen, who have now won four consecutive contests at home against Saint Rose, also won in Albany, 75-58, back on Dec. 6.
  • Timberlake becomes the 19th member of the 1,000-point club and the first since Gyanna Russell last season.
  • Timberlake has reached 10-plus points in 19 of 22 games this season, while Knights has done the same in 18 of 19.
  • Gordon has reached double figures in points in back-to-back games for the first time all season.
  • SNHU is 38-12 (.760) since the start of the 2021-22 season.
  • The Penmen held their annual Pink Day, partnering with CMC's Breast Care Center to help raise breast cancer awareness.
WHAT'S NEXT
  • The Penmen are back in action Wednesday, Feb. 15 (5:30 p.m.) when they play host to American International College at the Stan Spirou Field House in a game that will air live on WGIR 610-AM and Fox Sports New Hampshire 930-AM. SNHU will be holding a Winter Clothing and Food Drive, accepting lightly-worn winter apparel and non-perishable food items for The Closet and the Cupboard.
