SNHU Women Win Season Opener At 41st Shacklette Invitational

Obernesser, O'Rourke Lead Penmen to Fourth Straight Opening Win

The Penmen won a fourth consecutive Shacklette Invitational on Saturday, defeating NE10 rivals Saint Michael's College and host Saint Anselm College. 

TOP PERFORMANCES
  • Five SNHU runners finished in the top 10, led by sophomore Corrina Obernesser (Westminster, Colo.).  Obernesser finished fourth in 25:04.2.
  • Just behind Obernesser was senior Kaitlyn O'Rourke (Braintree, Mass.).  She finished fifth at 25:07.6.
  • Senior Hannah Bradbury (Seekonk, Mass.) was seventh in 25:27.8.
  • Freshman Kora Hay (Conventry, R.I.) ran eighth in 25:29.0.
  • Senior Kelsey Seamans (Methuen, Mass.) wound up ninth in 25:32.4.
NOTES
  • This was the 41st running of the event which started in 1982.  
  • The Penmen are ranked as the top team in the region in the pre-season rankings by the  U.S. Track & Field and Cross Country Coaches' Association (USTFCCCA) for the third consecutive season.
  • Four SNHU runners improved on times recorded at last year's Shacklette.  Obernesser, O'Rourke, sophomore Emily Charest (Methuen, Mass.) in 27:23.5 and sophomore Jia Anderson-Salo (Alstead, N.H.) in 29:42.9, all improved from 2022.
  • Senior Riley McDermott (Kennebunkport, Maine) recorded a 27:39.4 to finish 25th.
  • Competing for the first time for SNHU were freshman Deirdre Bailat (Billerica, Mass.) and freshman Katie Kraft (Londonderry, N.H.).  Bailat ran 27:50.5 for 26th place and Kraft crossed in 29:09.9 for 30th place.
  • St. Michael's finished second (37) and had the top two runners - both freshman.  Tess Drury won in 23:45.8 and Fran Peterson was second in 24:16.1.  Saint Anselm (49) finished third.

  • The Penmen will compete at UMass-Dartmouth on Saturday, September 16.
