Bailat Leads Penmen Women to Eighth at UMass Dartmouth Invitational

Result:  Navy Race, 6k - SNHU 8th of 22

The Southern New Hampshire University women's cross country team turned in a top-10 finish Saturday at the 52nd UMass Dartmouth Invitational, placing eighth overall in a field of more than 20 programs in the 6k Navy Race.

KEY MOMENT
  • The Penmen compiled 186 points, narrowly trailing UMass Dartmouth Alumni (183) and finishing just behind nationally respected programs, Bryant and Holy Cross.  
     
NOTES
  • Junior Deirdre Bailat (North Billerica, Mass.) paced SNHU with a standout performance, finishing 16th overall in 24:26.62 over the 6K course.
  • Sophomore Paige McInerney (Acton, Mass.) ran well to place 30th in 24:50.59.
  • Freshman Faith Perry (Pawtucket, R.I.) improved on her collegiate debut, clocking 25:05.98 for 35th place.
  • Junior Kora Hay (Coventry, R.I.) followed with a strong 25:33.71 run (50th overall).
  • Junior Natalie Sicard (Nottingham, N.H.) rounded out the scoring with a new PR of 25:46.62 (55th place).
  • Sophomore Hope Hanafin (Burlington, Mass.) competed for the first time with the cross country team, finishing in 34:25.50.
  • 169 runners took part in the race with Brown (33) turning in the top score while Salma Boukhtam of UMass Lowell won the race in 23:26.9.
  • More than 850 athletes took part in Saturday's four races (two divisions for the women and two for the men).

  • The NEICAAA (New England Championships) will take place on Friday, October 10 at the Hopkinton (N.H.) Fair Grounds (Women 2:00 PM and Men 2:45 PM).
