HOOKSETT, N.H. – The Southern New Hampshire University baseball team officially signed Deanthony Garcia (Manchester, N.H.) to its program Thursday after being matched with the 12-year-old through Team IMPACT.
Deanthony, who was diagnosed with B-cell Acute Lymphoblastic Leukemia, loves baseball, video games and hanging out with his friends at the mall. He also likes to cook and makes a very good chorizo with eggs. In addition to his friends and family, which includes his parents, Jesina and Odilon, Deanthony now has the support of the 34-member SNHU baseball team and its coaching staff.
Following a few words from head coach
Chris Shank, Deanthony signed his Letter of Intent, answered questions from the crowd in attendance, which included all of his new teammates, and then met the media.
Team IMPACT is a non-profit organization that improves the quality of life for children facing serious illness and disability by matching them with collegiate athletic teams. Deanthony becomes the 18th all-time letterwinner since for SNHU since its partnership with Team IMPACT began in 2012. He is also the second ever for the baseball program, which was previously matched with Ian from 2013-20.
