Women's Cross Country Runs Close Second at Northeast-10 Championships

Four earn All-Conference including Corrina Obernesser, who ran third

When and Where: October 27, 2024– (Hopkinton, N.H.) – Northeast-10 Cross Country Championships
Distance:  Women's race, 6k
Results: Southern New Hampshire University – 2nd of 11 (71)

SNHU women's cross country performed well, finishing second at Sunday's Northeast-10 Cross Country Championships.  Junior Corrina Obernesser (Westminster, Colo.) finished third overall.

TOP PERFORMANCES
  • Obernesser earned First-Team All-Conference with a new PR of 22.18.9.
  • Freshman Paige McInerney (Acton, Mass.) earned Second-Team All-Conference by crossing the line in 12th place (23:06.4).
  • Sophomore Deirdre Bailat (North Billerica, Mass.) followed McInerney, finishing 13th in  23:12.2.  That's also Second-Team All-Conference.
  • Freshman Erika Wojcik (North Andover, Mass.) earned Third-Team All-Conference by finishing 19th in 23:55.0.   
  • Sophomore Aveline McCabe (White Bear Lake, Minn.) also figured in the team scoring by finishing 24th in 24:23.0.
NOTES
  • Bentley won the team competition for the first time in school history, totaling 68 points.  SNHU had 71 points, followed by Saint Anselm (81) and Southern Connecticut (85).
  • Saint Anselm runner Anyelina Martinez (21:45.4) and Caitlin Burmester of Bentley (22:04.3) were the top two finishers in the race.
  • The race was contested for the third time at Hopkinton and hosted by Franklin Pierce University.  The race was also held there in 2014 and 2018.
  • The Penmen earn two Queen City Cup points by finishing ahead of Saint Anselm.
  • Obernesser's time was 16th best in program history at 6k.
  • The top seven SNHU runners recorded new personal bests on the Hopkinton Course.  The race was contested on a windy, cool day with a temperature of about 50 degrees.
  • Also running for the Penmen Sunday:
    • Junior Em Charest (Methuen, Mass.) – 25:41.7 (46th place)
    • Junior Jia Anderson-Salo (Alstead, N.H.) –25:53.7 (50th place)
    • Freshman Ari Hettrick- Rivera (East Hampton, Conn.) – 27:26.0 (73rd place)
  • Anderson-Salo earned the prestigious NE10 Elite 24 award for the top grade point average among athletes competing at the Championship.
UP NEXT
  • The Penmen will compete at the NCAA East Regional Championship in Rochester, N.Y. on Saturday, November 9.  The women's race is scheduled for 11:15 a.m.
