Bunnitt Wins Weight Throw, Penmen 2nd After Day 1 of NE10s

Hallet Has Podium Finish in Pentathlon Friday in Boston

Senior Laila Bunnitt (Lewiston, Maine) delivered a career-best toss in the weight throw to give SNHU a victory on the first day of the Northeast-10 Indoor Track & Field Championships Friday in Boston. 

TOP PERFORMANCES
  • Bunnitt's winning throw was 14.75m (48' 4"), and she needed almost all of that with New Haven's Jalynn McCown second at 14.75m.
  • Senior Emma Hallet (Billerica, Mass.) turned in a new PR while finishing third in the Pentathlon.  Hallet scored 2906 while setting new marks in both the 60H (9.48 seconds) and the 800m (2:47.21).
  • SNHU senior Theresa Irving and junior Tori Allen (Litchfield, N.H.) finished in a tie for fourth place in the pentathlon with 2762 points.  Those scores were personal best efforts for both athletes.
  • The Penmen added 14 team points with distance runners finishing 4th through 7th in the 5000m race.  Leading the way for SNHU was sophomore Corrina Obernesser (Westminster, Colo.) at 18.47.99.  She was followed by freshman Deirdre Bailat (Billerica, Mass.) at 18:53.01, senior Kelsey Seamans (Methuen, Mass.) at 19:01.17, and freshman Aveline McCabe (White Bear Lake, Minn.) at 19:21.68.
  • SNHU finished in third place in the DMR at 13:05.08.  Running the legs were senior Hannah Bradbury (Seekonk, Mass.), sophomore Maggie McInerney (Acton, Mass.), sophomore Anne Wiersma (Veldhoven, Netherlands), and senior Kaitlyn O'Rourke (Braintree, Mass.). 
  • The Penmen have qualified for finals in several events where preliminary races were run on Friday.
  • Sophomore Hope Sinclair (Hampton, N.H.) will run in the 60m. 
  • Senior Ava Gravell (Windham, N.H.) and McInerney have qualified in the 400m.
  • Bradbury will run in the 800m.
NOTES
  • Southern Connecticut State University (81) leads the women's competition, with the Penmen (45), Franklin Pierce University (40), and the University of New Haven (27) rounding out the top four.
  • Six of the eighteen events have been completed and athletes will return to the Track at New Balance tomorrow to crown a champion.  SNHU is the defending champion.

  • The Penmen compete again on Saturday in the Northeast-10 Indoor Track & Field Championships.
