(Daytona, Fla.) --- The SNHU Cheer Team finished in third place at National Cheerleaders Association (NCA) College National Championships Saturday in Daytona Beach. The Penmen finished third in the Advanced All-Girl category among Div. II schools.
Under the direction of Head Coach
Michelle McCarty, the Penmen have finished third at the prestigious national competition for a third straight season.
Captains
Brooke Drouin (
Derry, N.H.) and
Alexis Chrissanthiss (
Derry, N.H.) have been filing reports from Daytona. After the Penmen recorded a clean preliminary routine (no deductions), they wrote the team was excited about its final performance:
"Our first day out on the
Bandshell went amazing! Our team had a bunch of energy and had a hit routine during the preliminary round which is a first in program history.
When we were going through
warmups, we struggled with some nerves and adrenaline that we needed to get out. When asked about
warmups, sophomore
Madison Silvia (Somerset, Mass.) stated "I was excited and I was a little bit nervous, but I knew we were going to do good". Although our
warmup did not go as solid as we were hoping, we took all those butterfly feelings and transferred them into energy helping us to hit our routine on day one. We are one of about 12 advanced teams that managed this task today. 3 of which are the top 3 teams in our division - Oklahoma Baptist, Davenport, and SNHU!
After a great performance, the team stayed to watch big-name schools like Louisville, Texas Tech, and Weber State. Watching these amazing teams gives us a goal to aim towards.
We wrapped up an amazing day by getting a team dinner at Aunt Catfish, the food was delicious, and it was a great team bonding opportunity. Heather Lorenz (SNHU Vice President of Student Affairs for SNHU) and her daughter Emily joined us for the day as well as dinner. It was amazing to have such support from back home.
This season has been one unlike any other. #PensUp #NoMatterWhat
