(Daytona, Fla.) --- The SNHU Cheer Team finished in third place at the National Cheerleaders Association (NCA) College National Championships on Saturday in Daytona Beach. It's the third consecutive season the Penmen have finished third in the Nationals.
Captains
Brooke Drouin (
Derry, N.H.) and
Alexis Chrissanthiss (
Derry, N.H.) have been filing reports from Daytona. Some final thoughts...
SNHU cheer competed in the final round at the NCA championship on Saturday at 12:50 pm. We did not have our best performance, but many aspects of the routine improved from the day before. We finished in 3rd place! The team has grown so much this season and earned the 3rd place finish on Cheers' biggest stage. It's always hard when a season comes to an end, but we all enjoyed the
bandshell experience as a team.
This year we had a young team, the majority of athletes were freshmen, sophomores, and a few teammates coming off injury. One of these athletes is sophomore
Olivia Motta (Fall River, Mass.). Last year she went through a tough injury but came back this season better than ever. When asked about how it feels to be able to compete this year, Motta stated "It honestly feels amazing. Being able to sit out for a whole year and watch has taught me so much and I don't think I would be the same athlete without that year, but it doesn't compare to competing on that
bandshell with my team. I am just so glad to be able to be a part of a team that is so talented and to be fully part of each performance. Nothing else compares". This program has grown tremendously this season.
As we finish our season, we have to say goodbye to two Seniors,
Kelsey Bates (Oxford, Mass.) and
Paige Brooks (Nashua, N.H.), as well as a graduate student
Megan Perrault (
Tyngsboro, Mass.).
Kelsey Bates stated, "I couldn't have asked for a better team to have my final year of cheering end with. This team will hold a special place in my heart forever! I'm so proud of all the obstacles we have gone through during the season and still persevered through it all!" We will dearly miss our grads but are so excited to see where their futures take them.
This team has been special. Coach Michelle (McCarty) would say "The best one yet". Every athlete holds passion, dedication, and determination. We all do it for each other and our incredible coaches. We are very proud of each other and so sad to see the season go. The memories we make will last a lifetime. #
