MANSFIELD, Mass. – The Southern New Hampshire University men's lacrosse team was chosen seventh in the NE10 Preseason Coaches' Poll released on Tuesday.
Defending NE10 and National Champion Adelphi University is the pre-season pick among the conference coaches, picking up seven of the nine first-place votes. Pace University is slotted second and received the other two first-place votes. Saint Anselm College (52) and Bentley University (41) were picked third and fourth, with Saint Michael's College (40) and Assumption (27) also slotted ahead of the Penmen (23). Franklin University and American International College tied for eighth in the poll.
Head coach Paul Calkins will begin his 37th season leading the Penmen. He is the longest-tenured active head coach at one school at the Division II level. The Penmen went 4-9 overall (3-6 NE10) during the 2024 season.
SNHU's three NE10 All-Conference players from 2024 have graduated, but the roster is full of talented underclassmen who have already made a mark on the program. The team leader in goals last season, sophomore Ryan Lynch (Derry, N.H.) returns, and with a new uniform number. He scored 31 goals in his 13 games last season, finishing seventh in the NE10 (2.38 goals/game). Lynch will swap his 46 jersey for 0 this season. Lynch earned All-Rookie status last season along with sophomore Luke Wiedemann (Cheshire, Conn.), a long stick middle, who will sport uniform 5 in 2025.
Sophomore Sean Dwyer (Ballston Spa, N.Y.) played in all 13 contests as a freshman, scoring seven goals and adding an assist. Sophomore Patrick Roy (North Andover, Mass.) also returns after scoring a pair of goals and adding three assists.
Senior Patrick Cassidy (No. Chelmsford, Mass.) is the most experienced player on the roster at goalkeeper, having played in five games over the first three years of his career. Cassidy is one of four seniors on the roster along with Gavin Kostandin (Exeter, N.H.), Christian Perez (Methuen, Mass.), and Travis Brown (Windham, Maine). Graduate student Aidan Boyle (Westfield, Mass.) will spend his final year of eligibility with the Penmen after playing in 48 games for Assumption University as an undergraduate. He is a defenseman with 77 career ground balls.
Perez and junior Aidan Robinson (Cranston, R.I.) have been tabbed as captains.
The Penmen will open the 2025 season at home on Monday, February 10 (2:00 p.m.) against Felician University. Other home contests this season are against St. Thomas Aquinas College (3/1), Assumption University (3/18), Saint Michael's College (3/22), Pace University (4/5), and Franklin Pierce University (4/9).
