Two New Program Records Set Saturday for Track & Field

Jordan Wheaton and Laila Bunnitt Turn In Big Efforts at MIT Saturday

Graduate student Laila Bunnitt (Lewiston, Maine) turned in another record breaking performance in the weight throw and sophomore Jordan Wheaton (Hooksett, N.H.) hurdled her way into the record book as SNHU Track & Field competed Saturday at meets in Boston and Cambridge.

GORDON KELLY HIGHLIGHTS
  • After finishing as second qualifier (9.35) in her prelims in the 60H, Wheaton won the final at 9.18 seconds. 
  • Bunnitt again broke her own school record in the weight throw, finishing 3rd overall.  Her throw was 15.97m.
  • Three SNHU runners hit the top eight in the 400m - led by freshman Hope Hanafin (Burlington, Mass.) who won in 1:03.23.  Sophomore Kay Wheelock (Milford, Mass.) was seventh in 1:06.25 and freshman Paige Zimmerman (Bedford, N.H.) turned in a new PR with an eighth place run in 1:06.39.
  • Junior Maggie McInerney (Acton, Mass.) was SNHU's top performer in the long jump at 4.85m, finishing 3rd.  
  • Senior Tori Allen (Litchfield, N.H.) led the Penmen in the shot put Saturday at 10.39m, a career-best.
  • The meet also was the first for sophomore Angela Mateos (Seville, Spain).  Mateos, also an SNHU Volleyballer, competed in the 60m and long jump.
DAVID HEMERY HIGHLIGHTS
  • At BU, freshman Hannah Sippel (Chester, N.H.) and Maggie McInerney competed in the 400m dash.   Sippel (58.32) and McInerney (58.47) both ran new PR's while finishing in the top 30 in a field of 109 runners.
  • Wheaton also ran the 60H at the BU meet, turning in a 9.53m effort.
NOTES
  • Wheaton's mark in the 60H establishes a new program mark.  Alanna Murphy held the previous top finish at 9.20 seconds in 2019.
  • Bunnitt's previous mark in the weight throw was 15.91m set two weeks ago.  She has the second longest throw in the Northeast-10 Conference this season.

WHAT'S NEXT
  •  The Northeast-10 Indoor Track & Field Championships will take place next weekend (Feb. 22 and 23) at the TRACK at New Balance in Boston.
