Women's Track & Field Places Fourth in NE10 Indoor Championships

Laila Bunnitt Second In Shot Put - 4x400 Finishes Third

Result:  4th of 9 (77 points)

SNHU Indoor Track & Field finished up in fourth place at the NE10 Championships on Sunday in Boston.  Graduate student Laila Bunnitt (Lewiston, Maine) finished second in the shot put.  Sophomore Aveline McCabe (White Bear Lake, Minnesota) earned the prestigious Elite 24 award as the female athlete with the highest GPA at the Championship.Aveline McCabe Wins Elite 24 at Indoor Track 24-25
HIGHLIGHTS
  • Bunnitt followed up a third-place finish in the weight throw with a runner-up throw in the shot put event on Sunday with a new PR of 12.83m.
  • SNHU won the DMR on Saturday, and followed that up with strong runs in the 4x800 and 4x400.  20 team points were earned in relays.
  • The 4x400 squad finished third with freshman Hannah Sippel (Chester, N.H.), junior Maggie McInerney (Acton, Mass.), senior Tori Allen (Litchfield, N.H.) and freshman Hope Hanafin (Burlington, Mass.).
  • SNHU was fifth in the 4x800 with legs run by junior Anne Wiersma (Veldhoven, Netherlands), freshman Erika Wojcik (No. Andover, Mass.), junior Corrina Obernesser (Westminster, Colo.), and freshman Paige McInerney (Acton, Mass.) on track.
  • Sippel finished fourth in the 400m with a new PR of 58.16.
  • Obernesser was 5th in the 3000m on Sunday (10:53.68).
  • Maggie McInerney picked up four team points with a 1.50m in the high jump, finishing at the same mark as teammates Allen and sophomore Jordan Wheaton (Hooksett, N.H.).
  • Paige McInerney ran 5th in the mile with a new personal mark of 5:19.00.  She also finished 8th in the 800m.
  • Wojcik was SNHU's top finisher in the 800m with a sixth-place finish in 2:24.73.
  • Wheaton finished seventh in the 60H at 9.21.
  • Junior Hope Sinclair (Hampton, N.H.) earned two team points with a seventh-place finish in the 60.
NOTES
  • Both Southern Connecticut teams earned wins in Boston while New Haven was second in both.
  • Saint Anselm finished third in the women's competition to earn two Queen City Cup points for the Hawks by finishing ahead of the Penmen.

  •  The New England Championships come up the weekend of March 7/8 in Boston.
