Women's Track & Field Opens Outdoor Season With Spring Invitational

Penmen Sweep Relays, Bunnitt Wins Three Field Events Friday

SNHU Women's Track & Field started the Outdoor Season with the Spring Invitational at Ouellette Stadium.  The Penmen swept the relays and graduate student Laila Bunnitt (Lewiston, Maine) won her three field events on Friday.
HIGHLIGHTS
  • Bunnitt tripled up with wins in the shot put (12.28m), discus (36.95m), and hammer (43.00).
  • Junior Corrina Obernesser (Westminster, Colo.) set a new PR while winning the 3000 Steeplechase (11:41.14).
  • Freshman Hannah Sippel (Chester, N.H.) won the 200m (26.05), added two relays wins, and a fourth while running a 12.66 in her first try at the 100m.
  • Sophomore Jordan Wheaton (Hooksett, N.H.) won the 100H with a new PR of 15.22, ran two relays, and finished third in the high jump (1.51m).
  • Freshman Hope Hanafin (Burlington, Mass.) won the 400m (1:01.95) and was part of the winning 4x4 relay team with sophomore Madison Lyons (Mansfield, Conn.), Sippel, Obernesser, and freshman Paige McInerney (Acton, Mass.).
  • Lyons was also part of the winning 4x1 relay with junior Hope Sinclair (Hampton, N.H.), Sippel, and Wheaton.
  • Senior Tori Allen (Litchfield, N.H.) won the high jump at 1.56m, also finishing sixth in the 100H.
  • Sophomore Kayla Franks (Derry, N.H.) finished second in the javelin (38.67m).
  • Sophomore Kay Wheelock (Milford, Mass.) finished third in the 400H and was part of the second-place SNHU 4x4 relay team with Wheaton, freshman Erika Wojcik (No. Andover, Mass.), and Hanafin.
  • Wojcik finished second in the 3000S, running 12:02.81 in her first try at the event.
  • In the mile, McInerney ran third at 5:16.55.
  • Sophomore Deirdre Bailat (No. Billerica, Mass.) finished third in the 5000 (18:45.01)
NOTES
  • Bunnitt is coming off a strong indoor season in which she set new program mark for the weight throw and a new personal best for the shot.
  • SNHU field hockey player Jade Hendriks (Huissen, The Netherlands) competed for the Track & Field team for the first time running the 400m race.
  • SNHU volleyball player Angela Mateos (Seville, Spain), also participating in Track & Field, set new PR's in the high jump and long jump on Friday.
WHAT'S NEXT
  •  SNHU will compete at the University of New Hampshire next Saturday, April 5 before returning home for the Ed Daniels Invitational on April 12.
  • The Northeast-10 Outdoor Track & Field Championship will be hosted by SNHU at Ouellette Stadium on May 2-3, 2025.
