Eight New Members Inducted into SNHU Athletic Hall of Fame

Newest class will be honored at halftime of Nov. 1 women's soccer match

MANCHESTER, N.H. – Eight new honorees were inducted into the Southern New Hampshire University Athletic Hall of Fame this week, with the Class of 2025 being unveiled on the @snhupenmen social media platforms. Two inductees were announced each day from Tuesday through Friday.

The SNHU Athletic Hall of Fame, which now has 133 individuals and three teams enshrined, honors those individuals who, through participation, support or interest have made outstanding contributions in the field of intercollegiate athletics and have brought recognition, honor, distinction and excellence to Southern New Hampshire University. The SNHU Athletic Hall of Fame was originally created in 1967 and revived in 1988.

An athlete becomes eligible for nomination to the Hall of Fame five years after their last date of competition at SNHU, where they must also have graduated from and competed for a minimum of two seasons. A faculty or staff member is also eligible five years after leaving SNHU, must have served the University for a minimum of five years and must have had an outstanding career with a direct and significant impact on athletics. Teams become eligible 10 years after competition and must have brought national recognition to SNHU.

The 2025 class, which features six first-ballot inductees, will be recognized during SNHU Athletic Hall of Fame Recognition Day on Saturday, Nov. 1 at Mark A. Ouellette Stadium, as women's soccer takes on Adelphi University. Admission to the match is free and the event is open to the public. The eight newly-minted SNHU Athletic Hall of Fame members will be celebrated at a ceremony during halftime of the match, with those in attendance being honored on the field.

Dom DiMaggio (men's soccer, 2010-14)

DiMaggio played in 67 matches in goal over the course of his career, posting a record of 57-6-3 (.873) with 26 shutouts. He stopped 140 of the 174 shots he faced over 5644:07, recording a 0.54 goals-against average (GAA) and .805 save percentage. The 26 shutouts rank second all-time in the SNHU record book.

DiMaggio was a two-time Daktronics All-America (2013, 2014), three-time Daktronics All-Region (2012, 2013, 2014) and two-time NE10 All-Conference (2012, 2014) selection.

The Penmen went 88-13-8 (.844) during his five years, winning the 2013 NCAA National Championship, making five NCAA appearances and capturing three NE10 titles.

DiMaggio also served as an assistant coach with the Penmen in 2016.

DiMaggio is the 22nd men's soccer student-athlete to be inducted into the Hall of Fame and goes in on his second time on the ballot.

Ashley Elder (women's track & field, 2015-20)

Elder competed in multiple throws disciplines and owns the program's indoor shot put record (15.13), as well as the outdoor shot put (14.82), discus (47.39) and hammer (46.07) marks. 

Elder, who qualified for both the indoor and outdoor NCAA Championships in 2019, also collected eight NE10 Championship medals, including five gold (indoor shot put – 2019, 2020, indoor weight throw – 2020, outdoor discus – 2018, outdoor shot put – 2019). Her other three medals are silver (indoor shot put – 2018, outdoor discus – 2016, outdoor shot put – 2018.

Elder was named United States Track & Field and Cross Country Coaches Association (USTFCCCA) All-America in the shot put in 2020. She was also recognized as USTFCCCA All-Region on six occasions (indoor shot put – 2018, 2019, outdoor discus – 2016, 2017, 2018, outdoor shot put – 2018). Additionally, Elder was a five-time NE10 All-Conference recipient (three times in the shot put and twice in discus), including two-time First Team choice (indoor shot put – 2019, outdoor discus – 2018).

Elder was also impressive in the classroom, racking up USTFCCCA All-Academic (2018, 2019, 2020), CoSIDA Academic All-District (2019, 2020), NE10 Sport Excellence (outdoor 2020) and NE10 Academic All-Conference (indoor – 2018, 2019, 2020, outdoor – 2019) honors.

Elder becomes the first women's track & field Hall of Famer and makes it on the first ballot.

Tiago Fernandes (men's tennis, 2015-19)

Fernandes went 80-21 in singles play and 59-37 all-time in doubles during his career. He graduated as the program's all-time leader in singles wins, while ranking second in singles winning percentage (.792), third in doubles wins and sixth in doubles winning percentage (.615).

Fernandes was named the Intercollegiate Tennis Association (ITA) East Region Senior Player of the Year in 2019 and, impressively, was a three-time NE10 Vern Cox Player of the Year (2017, 2018, 2019) and four-time NE10 All-Conference First Team selection in singles (2016, 2017, 2018, 2019). Fernandes was also a two-time NE10 First Teamer in doubles (2017, 2019) and twice earned a Second Team spot in doubles (2016, 2018). Fernandes also came up big when it mattered most, earning NE10 Championship Most Outstanding Player on two occasions (2017, 2018), while four times hearing his name called for the NE10 All-Championship Team (2016, 2017, 2018, 2019). Fernandes also shined in the classroom, taking home CoSIDA Academic All-America (2018, 2019), CoSIDA Academic All-District (2018, 2019), NE10 Sport Excellence Award (2017, 2018, 2019) and NE10 Academic All-Conference (2017, 2018, 2019) honors during his career.

Over the course of his four years, the Penmen went 63-26 (.708), captured four NE10 titles, made four NCAA tournament trips and advanced to the Round of 16 for the first time in program history (2019).

Fernandes is the second men's tennis student-athlete to be voted into the Hall of Fame and does so in his first year of eligibility.

Erin Garczynski (softball, 2016-19)

Garczynski started all 194 games she played in, batting .394 (239-607) with 22 home runs, 138 RBI and 119 runs scored. Garczynski drew 53 walks and only struck out 31 times, as she slashed .447/.579/1.026. Playing all over the field, but mainly catcher and third base, Garczynski made only eight errors in 944 chances for a .992 fielding percentage. She is the program's all-time leader in batting average, hits, RBI, doubles (43) and games played, while ranking second in runs and fifth in home runs.

Garczynski was named an East All-Region Second Team selection by both the National Fastpitch Coaches Association (NFCA) and the Division II Conference Commissioners Association (D2CCA) in 2019, after being chosen as the NE10 Player of the Team. Garczynski was a four-time NE10 All-Conference choice, including a First Teamer in both 2017 and 2019.

The Penmen went 132-64 (.673), made the NE10 Championship all four years, including the finals in 2016, and advanced to the NCAA postseason three times (2016, 2018, 2019), including the Super-Regional in 2016.

Garczynski also served as an assistant coach with the Penmen from 2021-24.

Garczynski is the 11th softball Hall of Famer and joins her former assistant coach, Ali Maloof, in making it on the first ballot.

Kylie Lorenzen (women's basketball, 2015-19, women's track & field, 2016-19) 

Lorenzen played in 113  games, including 97 starts, with the women's basketball program. She amassed 1,798 points (15.9 ppg), 932 rebounds (8.2 rpg), 184 assists (1.6 apg) and 173 steals (1.5 spg), while knocking down 48.2 percent (654-1356) of her shots from the floor and 80.3 percent (462-575) from the line.  She is the program's all-time leader in points and rebounds, while ranking fourth in games played and 10th in steals. 

Lorenzen was a two-time Women's Basketball Coaches Association (WBCA) All-America Honorable Mention (2018, 2019) and a two-time D2CCA East All-Region Second Team honoree (2018, 2019). The 2016 NE10 Rookie of the Year was a three-time NE10 All-Conference selection, including a two-time First Team (2018, 2019) pick. Lorenzen was also recognized for her work in the classroom with a pair of CoSIDA Academic All-District (2018, 2019) nods.

The Penmen went 59-54 (.522) and qualified for a pair of NE10 Championships during her tenure.

On the track & field side, Lorenzen still has her name in the program's outdoor record book four times (long jump; 5.59m, 4x200 relay; 1:46.60, 4x400 relay; 4:00.91, sprint medley relay; 4:14.68.

Lorenzen is the ninth member of the women's basketball program to be inducted into the Hall of Fame an makes it on the first ballot.

Brendan O'Brien (baseball, 2010-14)

O'Brien played in 205 games, batting .277 with a .376 on-base percentage, 76 RBI and 159 runs scored. He also successfully swiped 124 of 133 bases and flashed a .983 fielding percentage, as he cleanly made 398 of 405 plays in the outfield. O'Brien graduated as the team's all-time leader in hits (221), runs, stolen bases and games played and still owns the records for hits, steals and games played.

O'Brien piled up the accolades as a senior, including American Baseball Coaches Association (ABCA) and National Collegiate Baseball Writers Association (NCBWA) East All-Region First Team, Daktronics East All-Region Second Team, ABCA/Rawlings East Region Gold Glove Second Team and NE10 All-Conference First Team honors.

The Penmen went 165-95-1 (.634) during his five seasons with the program. The team made three straight trips to the NCAA Championship (2012-14), including winning the program's first East Region title to earn a trip to the World Series in 2012. He was also part of he program's first NE10 title in 2014.

O'Brien, who goes into the Hall of Fame in his third time on the ballot, is the 15th member of the baseball program to be inducted.

Matt Paradis (men's golf, 2016-19)

Paradis competed in 35 events, securing 11 wins, 20 top-five finishes and 26 top-10 showings. He averaged a 72.9 over his 83 rounds, ranking first all-time in program history in that category. Paradis owned 10 of the top 29 individual rounds in program history when he wrapped up his career. He also matched the program record on two occasions by shooting 66 and ended his career with the four lowest round averages in program history.

Paradis captured individual medalist honors at the NCAA Atlantic/East Regional Championship in 2019 and won back-to-back individual NE10 Championship titles in 2017 and 2018. His 66 in the 2018 NE10 Championship matched the Championship record, while his 8-under for the two rounds set a new Championship mark.

Paradis was a Golf Coaches Association of America (GCAA) PING All-America Third Team selection in 2019, as he became the first All-American in program history. Paradis was a three-time GCAA PING East All-Region (2017, 2018, 2019) choice, the 2019 NE10 Player of the Year and a three-time NE10 All-Conference First Team (2017, 2018, 2019 honoree. He was also selected to the NE10 Academic All-Conference Team in 2018.

During his three-and-a-half seasons, the Penmen made four NCAA Atlantic/East Regional Championships, advanced to the only two NCAA National Championships in program history (2016, 2019) and captured an NE10 title (2018).

Paradis is the third member of the men's golf program to make the Hall of Fame and does so in his first year of eligibility.

Laura van der Doorn (field hockey, 2016-19)

van der Doorn played in 76 games, including 75 starts during her career, amassing 89 points on 36 goals and 17 assists. She ranks first in the program's record book in games played, second in points and goals, and sixth in assists. van der Doorn graduated as the program leader in games played, points and goals, while ranking second in assists.

van der Doorn had a huge senior year in 2019, earning National Field Hockey Coaches Association (NFHCA) All-America First Team, NFHCA East Regional Player of the Year and NE10 Player of the Year (2019) honors, in addition to being named the NE10 Woman of the Year. A two-time NE10 All-Conference First Team (2018, 2019) selection, van der Doorn collected many academic accolades, including NFHCA Division II National Scholar-Athlete (2019), NFHCA Scholar of Distinction (2019), NFHCA National Academic Squad (2016, 2017, 2018, 2019) and NE10 Academic All-Conference (2017, 2018, 2019).

The Penmen went 44-32 (.579), qualified for the program's first NE10 Championship (2018), reached the NE10 finals (2019) and advanced to the NCAA postseason for the first time (2019) during van der Doorn's tenure.

van der Doorn is a first-ballot Hall of Famer and the first member of the field hockey program to receive the Hall call.
