NO. ATTLEBORO, Mass. – Senior
Ugo Nwachukwu (Imo State, Nigeria) of the Southern New Hampshire University men's basketball team was chosen as the NE10 Player of the Week for the period ending Feb. 28, the league office announced Monday.
Nwachukwu, who also collected the award Nov. 23 and Dec. 15, recorded 19 points (6-14 FG, 1-2 3-FG, 6-10 FT), a career-high 17 rebounds and two steals, as SNHU rallied from 10 down in the final five minutes to secure a 67-64 victory at Bentley University on Tuesday to help nail down the final spot in the NE10 Championship.
In 28 contests this season, including 23 starts, Nwachukwu is averaging 15.4 points per game on 57.7 percent (157-272) shooting, including 44.3 percent (35-79) from downtown, while grabbing 8.9 rebounds and dishing just shy of 1.0 assist. He is pacing the NE10 in field goal percentage, while ranking second in 3-point field goal percentage, third in rebounding, fifth in field goals made and free throws made (81) and ninth in scoring.
Nwachukwu and the seventh-seeded Penmen (15-13) take on sixth-seeded Saint Michael's College in the NE10 Championship semifinals on Wednesday (March 4) at 7 p.m.
