DALLAS – Graduate student Shane McNamara (Londonderry, N.H.) of the 22nd-ranked Southern New Hampshire University baseball team claimed National Collegiate Baseball Writers Association (NCBWA) National Hitter of the Week honors Thursday for the period ending April 12.

McNamara, who received NE10 Player of the Week and NCBWA East Region Hitter of the Week accolades earlier in the week, hit .560 (14-25) with eight extra-base hits, including four home runs, 19 RBI and nine runs scored during a 5-0 week for SNHU. He slashed .571/1.200/1.771, while going 2-for-2 on stolen base attempts and making all eight of his plays in center field. McNamara finished Sunday's doubleheader sweep of Franklin Pierce University 9-for-10 (.900) with three doubles, three home runs, a walk, 15 RBI and six runs scored, while slashing .909/2.100/3.009. He went 12-for-19 in the four-game sweep of the Ravens, homering four times and driving in 18 of his runs, which included a nine-RBI performance in Sunday's opener.

McNamara has started all 31 games he has played in during his first season with the Penmen, batting .344 (42-122) with a team-high 11 home runs, 40 RBI and 44 runs scored, while slashing .449/.713/1.162. He is 7-for-8 on steals and has been perfect on 58 chances in the outfield. McNamara ranks second in the league in slugging percentage and OPS, third in home runs, fifth in RBI, seventh in runs scored and eighth in doubles.

McNamara and the Penmen (27-8) are back in action Friday (April 17) when they play host to Adelphi University in a noon doubleheader at Penmen Field.
