PENMEN BATTLE TO SCORELESS STALEMATE WITH NO. 24 DOMINICAN

BOX SCORE

MANCHESTER, N.H. - In a battle of two teams that advanced to the NCAA Division II men's soccer tournament last season, Southern New Hampshire University and 24th-ranked Dominican College battled to a 0-0 tie in double overtime Saturday afternoon in balmy conditions at Larkin Field.  It marked the second-straight tie to open the season for both clubs as the Penmen and Chargers are both 0-0-2 on the season.

Southern New Hampshire's Dan Pelc (Hamilton, Ontario) made three saves en route to his 18th career shutout and first of the season, putting him in sole possession of fifth place on the school's all-time shutout list.  Robert Kelly (Kearny, NJ) made five saves for Dominican, which was outshot 15-6 for the game.

Both teams had chances to score the game-winner in overtime.  Moments into the first extra session, a shot by Dominican's Ryan Clancy (Pine Bush, NY) glanced off the hands of Pelc, but Pelc was able to collect the ball before it squirted across the goal line.  A few minutes later, a free kick at the top of the box by DC's Jhonny Arteaga (Stamford, CT) sailed through the crowd but Pelc was able to make the save.

SNHU's best chances came in the second session.  A minute into the second overtime, Matt Delaney (Wallsey, England) had a header off a corner kick that just sailed wide of the far left post.  With four minutes remaining, a header attempt at point blank range by Gabe Mercier (Middleboro, MA) was stopped by Kelly.

Dominican was forced to play a man down for the match's final 88 minutes as Diego Barahona (Stamford, CT) was whistled for a red card just past the 22-minute mark of the contest.

Southern New Hampshire opens Northeast-10 play on Wednesday evening when it hosts Merrimack College for a 7:00 contest at Larkin Field.
