ROCKVILLE CENTRE, N.Y. - A goal by Kristie Sosnowski with
four seconds remaining lifted host Molloy College to a 16-15
women's lacrosse victory over Southern New Hampshire University
Thursday afternoon. Both teams now sit at 4-3 on the season.
Sherry Darrell
(Bow, NH) led Southern New Hampshire with three goals and four
assists, while Libby Parent (Hinesburg, VT)
recorded three goals and three assists. Laura
Rotolo (Waltham, MA) scored four goals, while
Julie Kraus (Derry, NH) had two goals and an
assist. Lucretia Joy (Portland, ME),
Nikki Downey (Rutland, VT) and Jennifer
Parro (Ipswich, MA) all had single goals for the Penmen.
Rebecca LaFlare paced Molloy with
five goals and an assist.
SNHU trailed 12-9 midway through
the second half but scored three straight goals to tie the game
12-12, with Kraus and Darrell scoring 29 seconds apart to tie it
with 10:10 left. The Lions would score the next two goals,
but the Penmen responded with two goals, a Darell tally making it
14-all with 4:23 left. The hosts took a 15-14 lead before
Parent tied it with 3:07 left to play, the final goal before
Sosnowski's last-second shot.
Southern New Hampshire never
trailed in the first half and held a 7-2 lead just 8:30 into the
contest following a Rotolo score. Molloy would answer with
five straight goals to tie the game with 4:29 left before
intermission, and after the two teams traded goals, Parent
converted a free position with nine seconds left to give the Penmen
a 9-8 halftime advantage.
Katie Clark
(Norwich, CT) made eight saves for SNHU as the Penmen were outshot
39-33.
Southern New Hampshire continues
its three game Long Island trip Friday when it travels to Dowling
College.
