PLEASANTVILLE,
N.Y. - Host Pace University swept a Northeast-10 baseball
doubleheader from Southern New Hampshire University by scores of
21-3 and 10-1 Saturday afternoon at Finnerty Field. The
Setters improved to 14-8 overall and 4-0 in the NE-10, while the
Penmen are now 2-13 and 0-7 in the league.
In game one, SNHU jumped out to a
2-0 lead in the top of the second when Scott
Strong (Naperville, IL) and Bob Wronski
(Arlington, MA) had back-to-back one-out singles. Both scored
when Joe Santos (Holliston, MA) reached on a
throwing error. Pace scored five runs in the bottom of the
frame to take a 5-2 lead, but the Penmen would get one back in the
top of the third when Bill Murray (Canton, MA) led
off with a single and scored on a double by Jeff
Giannino (Beverly, MA). Pace scored three more times
in the third to take a 8-3 lead.
Strong led SNHU with a pair of hits
in the opener.
In game two, five Setter pitchers
held the Penmen to just five hits. SNHU scored its only run
in the top of the ninth when a groundout by Strong scored
Eric Pelletier (Beverly, MA), who led off the
inning with a triple. Pace took a 3-0 lead in the bottom of
the second then added two runs in the fourth and scored five times
in the sixth.
SNHU stays in New York to face Pace
Sunday at 1:00.
