Tenth-Ranked Women's Lacrosse Coasts Past Owls

MANCHESTER, N.H. - Three players finished with three goals apiece as No. 10 Southern New Hampshire University opened up a 14-1 halftime lead and coasted to a 19-7 Northeast-10 women's lacrosse victory over Southern Connecticut State University at Larkin Field Tuesday afternoon.  The Penmen, who earlier in the day entered the IWLCA/UnderArmour Division II poll at No. 10 nationally, improved to 6-5 and a perfect 5-0 in NE-10 play.  The Owls now stand at 1-6 and 1-2 in the league.

Laura Rotolo (Waltham, MA), Libby Parent (Hinesburg, VT) and Sherry Darrell (Bow, NH) each finished with three goals and an assist apiece to pace Southern New Hampshire.  Jennifer Parro (Ipswich, MA) totaled two goals and three assists, while Emmalee Willis (Hingham, MA) notched two goals and two assists.  Nikki Downey (Rutland, VT) had two goals and an assist while Carole Lee (Derry, NH) added a pair of goals. Alyssa Johnson (Nashua, NH) had a goal and two assists while Jami Shugrue (Lowell, MA) registered a goal and an assist.  Lucretia Joy (Portland, ME) tallied three assists.

Grace Martha led Southern Connecticut with three goals and two assists.

Rotolo opened the scoring for SNHU 2:51 into the contest, but SCSU's Allison Kownacki would tie the score just 28 seconds later.  From there, the Penmen reeled off 13 unanswered goals in the first half to take a 14-1 halftime lead and scored the next two goals of the second half to lead 16-1.  Southern Connecticut would score the game's final four goals over the final 6:15.

Katie Clark (Norwich, CT) made 12 saves for SNHU as the Penmen outshot Southern Connecticut 35-24.  Lisa Corso took the loss for the Owls in net, playing the first 47:27 and making 10 saves.

Southern New Hampshire returns to action Friday night when it travels to No. 6 Stonehill College for a battle of nationally-ranked teams.  The contest is slated for a 7:00 start.
