No. 8 Franklin Pierce University swept Southern New Hampshire
University by scores of 13-2 and 7-2 in a Northeast-10 baseball
doubleheader Saturday afternoon. The Ravens improved to
28-7-1 overall and 13-5-1 in NE-10 play, while the Penmen are now
6-25 and 4-18 in the league.
SNHU jumped out to a 1-0 lead in
the bottom of the first in the nightcap. Bill
Murray (Canton, MA) would work a two-out walk and after
stealing second, scored on a single to right-center by
Chris O'Neil (Chelmsford, MA). The Ravens
would score single runs in the fourth and fifth innings before
scoring three times in the seventh and two more in the
eighth. The other Penmen run came in the bottom of the
seventh, when Scott Strong (Naperville, IL) led
off with a single and eventually scored on a wild pitch.
Kevin Renaud had four hits for
Franklin Pierce in game two, while Randy Bernosky had a pair of
hits, including a solo home run to lead off the seventh.
Tyler Sykes fanned 10 in five innings of work to pick up the win,
while Greg Lyons (Canton, MA) surrendered just one
earned run in 6.2 innings of work for SNHU and was tabbed with the
loss.
In the opener, FPU broke open a 3-2
game with three runs in the fifth, three more in the sixth and four
in the seventh. SNHU scored both of its runs in the bottom of
the third when with the bases loaded, Raven hurler Brian Maloney
unleashed a wild pitch and catcher Jacob Ferreira committed a
throwing error to score Eric Pelletier (Beverly,
MA) and Ryan Thompson (Westford, MA).
Renaud was 3-3 with two RBI for
Franklin Pierce, which also got a 2-4, three RBI effort from Derek
Ingui. Murray had two of SNHU's four hits in the
opener. Vinny Gemma pitched 4.2 innings of relief for starter
Maloney to earn the win.

their season series with a single game in Rindge Sunday at 1:00.
