Walkoff Slam Lifts Franklin Pierce Past Baseball

BOX SCORE

RINDGE, N.H. - Derek Ingui belted a walkoff grand slam as host No. 8 Franklin Pierce University scored five times in the bottom of the ninth to post a 6-2 Northeast-10 baseball victory over Southern New Hampshire University Sunday afternoon.  The Ravens improved to 29-7-1 overall and 14-5-1 in NE-10 play, while the Penmen are now 6-26 and 4-19 in the league.

Southern New Hampshire had taken a 2-1 lead in the top of the ninth when Joe Santos (Holliston, MA) worked a leadoff walk and was lifted for pinch runner Brett Joy (Milford, NH).  Joy would score on a bases-loaded single by Tim Rines (Northfield, NH) to make it 2-1.

FPU would load the bases as the first three batters would reach in the bottom of the ninth.  Ryan Copp would be hit by a pitch with the bases loaded to allow Tyler Bishop to score the game-tying run.  The next batter, Jake Christman, reached on a fielders' choice when Matt Skeffington was thrown out at home.  Ingui would then homer to left-center to end the game.

The Penmen took a 1-0 lead in the top of the fourth when Santos delivered a double down the left field line that scored Chris O'Neil (Chelmsford, MA).  The Ravens tied the game in the bottom of the sixth when Ingui scored on an RBI single by Kevin Renaud.

Bill Murray (Canton, MA) led SNHU with a pair of hits as the Penmen outhit Franklin Pierce 7-6.  Bryant Gauthier (Lynn, MA) went eight innings on the hill for SNHU, allowing just three hits while striking out three.  Mike Evans (Seabrook, NH) came on in the start of the ninth for the Penmen and took the loss.

SNHU returns to action Tuesday when it hosts Merrimack College in a 3:30 contest.
