BOX SCORE
MANCHESTER, N.H. -
Mike Dooling was 3-5 with three RBI as Merrimack College posted a
7-5 Northeast-10 baseball victory over Southern New Hampshire
University Tuesday afternoon. The Warriors improved to 14-22
overall and 10-13 in the NE-10, while the Penmen are now 6-27 and
4-20 in the league.
Ryan Thompson
(Westford, MA) and Jeff Giannino (Beverly, MA) led
SNHU with two hits apiece. Chris O'Neil
(Chelmsford, MA) drove in a pair of runs for the Penmen, while
Skyler Byrd (Milford, NH) had a home run in the
sixth. Jeff Bercume, Bob McCarthy and Mike Andre all had two
hits apiece for Merrimack.
Twice, Southern New Hampshire would
come back to tie the game after falling behind. The Warriors
opened the game with two runs in the top of the first, but SNHU
scored twice in the bottom of the frame. Thompson led off the
game with a double for the Penmen and scored when Bill
Murray (Canton, MA) tripled to right. Murray would
score on a single by Giannino.
Merrimack would score solo runs in
the third and sixth innings to take a 4-2 lead. Byrd's blast
to straightaway center in the bottom of the sixth made it 4-3, but
the Warriors scratched out another run in the top of the seventh to
make it 5-3.
The Penmen would score twice in the
bottom of the seventh to tie the game 5-5. Thompson and
Tim Rines (Northfield, NH) registered back-to-back
one out singles, and after Murray grounded out, Byrd was
intentionally walked to load the bases. O'Neil would tie the
game with a two-run single to center field.
The guests would get the win with a
pair of runs in the top of the eighth when Dooling delivered a
two-out double to right-center that scored Bercume and Ryan
Shepard.
Chris Smith earned the win for
Merrimack, not allowing a hit in 2.1 innings of relief.
Chris McCabe (Fall River, MA) worked the start of
the eighth in relief for Southern New Hampshire and took the loss.
SNHU and Merrimack meet Thursday in
North Andover, MA at 3:30 pm.
