Stonehill Prevails in Battle of Nationally-Ranked Women's Lacrosse Teams

EASTON, Mass. - After trailing 7-6 at halftime, sixth-ranked Stonehill College posted a 16-12 Northeast-10 women's lacrosse victory over No. 10 Southern New Hampshire University at W.B. Mason Stadium Sunday afternoon.  The Skyhawks, who extended their Northeast-10 record conference winning streak to 73 games, improved to 7-1 and 5-0 in the league, while the Penmen suffered their first league loss of the season and are now 6-5 and 5-1 in NE-10 play.

Libby Parent (Hinesburg, VT) led Southern New Hampshire with three goals and four assists, while Carole Lee (Derry, NH) added three goals.  Lucretia Joy (Portland, ME) notched a goal and three assists, while Nicole Downey (Rutland, VT) registered a pair of goals.  Julie Kraus (Derry, NH) and Jennifer Parro (Ipswich, MA) each totaled a goal and an assist, while Sherry Darrell (Bow, NH) added a pair of assists.  Laura Rotolo (Waltham, MA) had SNHU's other goal.

Michelle Kelly led Stonehill with six goals and two assists for eight points, while Liza Gross totaled three goals and an assist.

Southern New Hampshire never trailed in the first half and led 6-3 with 11:10 left in the first half following a goal by Parent.  The Skyhawks scored the next three goals and a tally by Kelly 5:32 before intermission tied the score at 6-6.  Joy would score 2:54 before the break to give the Penmen a 7-6 halftime lead.

Stonehill would score the first four goals of the second half to take a 10-7 lead 6:48 into the stanza on a goal by Gross.  Downey and Parro would score back-to-back to make it 10-9 at the 12:07 mark.  After the two teams traded goals, the hosts put the game away by scoring four goals in a 5:16 span to take a 15-10 lead with exactly four minutes left on a tally by Rebecca Cottam.

Amanda McGeachey made four saves in goal for Stonehill to earn the win as the Skyhawks held a 31-19 shot advantage.  Katie Clark (Norwich, CT) made 14 saves for the Penmen.

Southern New Hampshire returns to action Tuesday afternoon when it hosts Saint Michael's College in a 4:00 contest at Larkin Field.
