MANCHESTER, N.H. - Carole Lee (Derry, NH)
finished with a team-high five goals as second-seeded Southern New
Hampshire University posted a 22-14 win over No. 3 seed Bryant
University in the semifinals of the Northeast-10 Women's Lacrosse
Championship Friday night at Larkin Field. With the win, the
Penmen improve to 12-5 overall and advance to Sunday's championship
game, where it will face top-seeded and host Stonehill, an 18-5
winner over No. 5 seed Saint Michael's in Friday's other
semifinal. Bryant sees its season come to a close at 10-8
overall.
Sherry Darrell
(Bow, NH) added four goals and two assists for SNHU.
Laura Rotolo (Waltham, MA) notched four goals,
while Libby Parent (Hinesburg, VT) tallied three
goals and three assists. Lucretia Joy
(Portland, ME) also tallied three goals, while Jennifer
Parro (Ipswich, MA) notched two goals and three
assists. Julie Kraus (Derry, NH) had a goal
and two assists while Nikki Downey (Rutland, VT)
had two assists.
Bryant was led by Allison
Faiola (Billerica, MA), who registered eight goals and an
assist. Caitlin Hansen (Spring Lake, NJ),
Delia Glover (Marston Mills, MA) and Eliza
Demarseilles (Branford, CT) all had two goals apiece.
SNHU led 3-0 just 2:08 into the
game and took a 6-1 lead just under 10 minutes in on a goal by
Parro. Bryant would score the next two to make it 6-3, but
the Penmen would score six of the final eight goals of the first
half to lead 12-5 at halftime, scoring the final goal with 1:46
left when Parent converted a free-position shot.
The Penmen scored the first three
goals of the second half to make it 15-5 4:10 into the period on a
goal by Parro. Bryant would whittle the lead down to six,
17-11, with 11:16 remaining on a goal by Glover, but the Penmen
scored five unanswered goals and a goal by Joy with 4:38 left gave
the hosts a 22-11 advantage.
Katie Clark
(Norwich, CT) made six saves for Southern New Hampshire, which
outshot Bryant 40-27. Bulldog netminder Jessica
Bolton (Belgrade Lakes, ME) stopped 10 shots.
SNHU is making its first appearance
in the Northeast-10 championship game in the fifth year of the
program. Stonehill has appeared in all 10 Northeast-10
championship games since women's lacrosse became a league sport in
1999. The Skyhawks are aiming for their ninth consecutive
NE-10 crown.
