BOX SCORE
WALTHAM, Mass. -
Bentley College broke a 3-3 tie in the bottom of the ninth when
Ross Curley singled through the left side to post a 4-3
Northeast-10 baseball victory over Southern New Hampshire
University at DeFelice Field Saturday. The Falcons clinched
an NE-10 playoff berth with the victory and improved to 22-24 and
17-13 in the league, while the Penmen see their season come to a
close at 7-32 and 5-25 in the Northeast-10.
With one out in the ninth,
Bentley's Charlie Pagliarulo drew a one-out walk. He was
picked off by SNHU reliever Chris McCabe (Fall
River, MA), but the throw to second by first baseman Jeff
Giannino (Beverly, MA) was wild and Pagliarulo was
safe. Following a fly out and another walk, Curley delivered
the game-winner, a sharply hit grounder between short and
third. The ball slowed in the wet outfield grass, and
Pagliarulo easily scored the game-winner.
SNHU jumped out to a 1-0 lead in
the fourth when a single by Joe Santos (Holliston,
MA) up the middle scored Skyler Byrd (Milford,
NH). Bentley would score three times in the bottom of the
frame to go up 3-1, but the Penmen tied the game with two runs in
the sixth. Bill Murray (Canton, MA) led off
the inning by reaching on an error and scored when Giannino
grounded out to short. Koby Thibault
(Salisbury, MA) drove in the game-tying run with a single that
plated Byrd.
Santos finished with two hits for
SNHU, while Curley had two hits for the Falcons as both teams
registered seven hits. Greg Lyons (Canton,
MA) fanned seven in seven innings of work for the Penmen,
scattering six hits. McCabe took the loss in relief, not
allowing a hit in 1.2 innings of work but walking three.
